Sounds good to me. Stamkos was 40 goals last year. Carrier been good player since he left Nashville.Trotz as per Lebrun, had been trying to land Barron, over the 12 months before he traded for him.
Trotz has also voiced dissatisfaction towards several of his players given how the team committed to UFAs this past summer and threatened to jettison some players in trades.
How would you feel if Hughes could get a Stammer off their hands, with a little retention perhaps? Yes he’s 34 but he only has 3 more years after this and plays center — great mentor filling a position of need. He’s been a high point producer over the past 3 years. They’d be getting him on a down year.
We’d have to check Newhook’s neck length to be sure but — what if Trotz values a Newhook?

Think the Habs would be more inclined to go after Marchessault, whom they had spoken to and offered a deal as a UFA, before he ultimately signed with Nashville, IF they were looking to make a deal with the Predators for a forward.

No need for a deal for any of Nashville's forwards. Let's continue to see how Dach plays before we go spending for his replacement. I have not given up on him as a 2C quite yet. Not to mention we have a very solid candidate for 2C in our future in Hage. IMO we are not as desperate for that 2C as we were a month ago, when Dach was looking like he would never come back.
RD on the other hand. I would 100 percent make a move for a top 4 RD. Mailloux is developing as I hoped and Reinbacher is at least another season after this away.

Lets ruin our prime years with some stupid anchor contract for a player who does not bring anything. He scored 40 playing PP with Kucherov, 5on5 he was already very bad last year.

Fully agree, we should be patient with 2C as we have several candidates in our pipeline - Dach, Hage, Beck, Kapanen. If we can extend Evans, we have almost zero urgency to address this need. In that case, no trade is the best trade.
RHD is the one we should address for sure as we do not really have anyone. Savard is cooked, Matheson is not really a RD and Carrier should be 3D in cup contending team. However, there are very few options on the market. We should not really be looking at offensive type of D as we already have Hutson as our PP1 QB. So instead of Bouchard, Dobson there are guys like Ekblad, Pionk, Perbix, Borgen, Kovacevic as potential UFAs or Andersson, Cernak, Carlo as potential trade targets.
Hage is some time away and there will be a learning curve like any other rookie. Dvorak won’t be re-signed.
If Evans tests the market and is also gone, you’re left with Dach as the only C candidate behind Suzuki, currently at the NHL level. Dach may or may not be a center and he certainly does not have enough experience as a C.
Can’t have 3 inexperienced Cs behind Suzuki. Habs need a C above all, someone with experience who will mentor the incoming crop, IMO.

I like the idea of Ekblad. Will be 29 and likely seeking 7 year contract for 7-8 million. Would really need to do homework before doing it, but he is a Stanley Cup winning veteran. Shut down guy. Decent production from back end. Would be our #1 RD beside Hutson and could focus on the D side of the game and protected the young superstar.

Im okay with a move for a 2C but just not as crucial as we were before. I like how Dach has played the past couple of weeks, and if he can maintain that pace, he would be a fine 2C. Seems like more of a summer move if anything. We just need more time. I'd also try to re-sign Evans at this point, but its gotta be cost controlled. He is a perfect bottom 6 centre, who can be our #3 until Hage or Beck or Kapanen supplants him. Evans is a toolsy player a la Danault and I like it.
Dvorak can be fired into the sun.

Or we can get one year of Zach Bogosian who would replace Savard and give Reinbacher, Mailloux, Engstrom more time to develop in Laval.
MIN does not need him as they have Faber, Spurgeon and Jiricek.

The argument I’m hearing from radio pundits is that Evans will want to get paid based on this season and how his demands may be too rich for Hughes. We’ll find out soon enough.
As for Dach, he’s missed a ton of games and the position he’s best suited for, remains an unknown.
I think there will be a domino effect depending on what happens with Evans. C has been a sore spot for decades and continues to be a brittle proposition. I’d much prefer to get an experienced 2C, so it buys time for incoming rookies at the position (Hage, Beck, maybe Demidov, whoever they draft in 2025).

Hmmmmm. Well Im open for anything. Wouldn't make a play for Stamkos though at this point as some have suggested. Definitely not into overpaying Evans. But you are right. Dominoes can set us back, much like the exodus of players after the Finals run.
I’m not necessarily into getting Stamkos but anyone who is experienced and is a C.
I don’t know enough about where Stamkos is at and why he’s underperforming. Maybe he’s fallen off a cliff or maybe it’s just a down season.

Stamkos needs to be on a team with a good center and strong PP. He can't be the center on his own line lol.
I believe there are a lot of NHL players who look better than what they are based on the talent they are surrounded with. Changing teams shows it most often

I was on these boards saying it a lot. It was an opportunity to acquire Dubois but no... fans were obsessed that he sucks and ignored my context of the dumb dumb Kings putting Dubois on the 3rd line with bums and expecting results.
No doubt we could have acquired Dubois with Gallagher or Anderson in that deal. The only issue I have with Dubois's contract is he is around $1.5M overpaid. $7M AAV is a better number for him. $6M is a value contract and $8.5M is a bit too much.
No Doubt in my mind that he is a 60 pts center in the right situation and yeah, he really does play a style that is effective in the playoffs

4 more years with Tkachuk and then UFA. If we were to make that trade and the Habs don't move the needle in those 4 years while Slaf matures and becomes very good, that back fires on us badly when Tkachuk tells us he wants to go to the US as a UFA.
Not an automatic no or yes for me. I'm a huge fan of Tkachuk and if he came with 6 or 7 years of term, that would fit our timeline to contend better. Confidence he signs and stays after it? I would not gamble on it

Even if TabarDach remains an unknown, with the quality prospects we have coming up, if another team is giving us any significant value, I'd move his ass out. He just showed for a half a season that he isn't any better than PLD professionally, and is still unable to produce consistently, with the worst face-offs skills of all our centers.
If Beck only shows up marginally better, he'll get his spot, so if we can move early, we should.
