Boston Bruins 24-25 Roster/Cap thread XI

Also, making Montgomery accept Cassidy's entire coaching staff was overstepping and another strike against him in my book.
Love the post, but on this I thought Dom mentioned not long ago that Monty was given the option to hire his own staff but chose to keep Cassidy’s. I might be misremembering- wouldn’t be the first time.

With the Bruins only carrying 22 of the max 23 players on their roster, is there really any reason right now for Lysell to be in Providence? Clearly they could use his skill-set at this current juncture.

Instead they'll leave him down in the AHL just so they can conserve more cap space for the trade deadline. A deadline where all signs point towards them being sellers.

No, there isn’t.

I think there’s a trade coming because Sweeney finally looks objectively bad.

That shouldn’t be what it takes to acquire actual elite center talent, instead of bandaids and crossing your fingers hoping a center can put it together (Zacha/Lindholm/Coyle/Poitras) but I’ll take it.

Need to start the selling. I'd ask Marchand what he wants to do and respect what he says. I would look to move bigger pieces like Carlo, Frederic and Coyle. Geekie and Brazeau I would look to deal too. I just don't know the cumulative value of these guys. Restocking the cupboard is paramount.
Even if you can come away from the TDL from a couple of 2s, it helps.

I like prospects more than picks -- just because they're usually further along in their development and easier to project.

I love Marchand and am fine with them doing whatever he wants but trading him in a Nieuwendyk - Iginla type deal is exactly what this team needs.

If he's willing to go to a contender for another kick at the cup -- no problem from my perspective -- but considering that any contender is likely picking 25-32 or so, I'd rather that team's top prospect than their #1.

No knock on the player in general, but not sure what the fuss is with this particular shift. All I see is him missing an empty net.

Been saying that since last year: they should have gone full rebuild. Last season was just fool's gold, now they must fire Sweeney/Cam and start over.
They will not rebuild, it will be a retool if something happen, but this retool should have been made the year after the 2022-2023 PO debacle

Agree on everyone but Brazeau, I think he's a guy they need to keep for depth scoring, and hes young-ish. I come away impressed with his play in the offensive zone every game, which i can't say for a lot of the team. Obviously assuming price is right.

Geekie I could go either way with.

Id prefer to keep Marchy to mentor young guys, unless he wants to chase a cup

What's funny is the fact Mason is learning to play D up in Boston and he's getting worse not better.

Lysell should be doing the same as a forward. Im sure Cris Fing Kelly would love to work with him lol

I think we will all be disappointed. I am more disappointed they aren't even shaking it up slightly by calling up some of the kids that are playing well in providence.
I agree i think we will be really disappointed, it s really so disappointed right now, everyone is waiting for the big splash, big trade but they ve nothing to work with except players like Pasta, McAvoy, Sway etc...and they will not trade them! Work with the kids you ve got cause right now the NHL team is terrible, get a good draft pick top 10 could be a good one and way better a top 5 who maybe could jump on the roster next year and start kind of retool by some trades and good signing, are we confident with this management do do this, good trades, good signing, good drafting?

Hell at least the kid can skate, create and produce offense from the back end. He's not the only one who has defensive gaffs, hell Ive seen Zadarov,McAvoy and Carlo have more than their fair share as well. This kids defensive play is far from this teams problem. He's no rod Langway back there, but who is.

last year word was that the Bruins strenght was base on their D corp and goalies, for the D corp, why this year they re a complet mess? Funny coincidence with the change of coach for the defender group

I want a retool. I want guys sold off. I want the kids called up cause honestly can it get any worse?

But does Sweeney get away with doing that after spending to the cap this past offseason and his team ends up being much worse than last year's team?

I feel like he will be GMing/trading in respect to keeping his job especially with how wide open the East is even with this team on a really bad skid.

Then again, under this ownership, is his job really in jeopardy at all until they miss playoffs/ticket sales are effected?

This entire staff will be history after the season and thank god

Bruins, do not need a mentor, they need someone or someones, that can put the puck in the net.

Honestly we are beating up the D and specifically on Mason, but I feel like a large part of the problem is that our fowards aren't good. They can't get the puck out of the zone, they can't keep the puck in the offensive zone for sustained pressure, can't score and because of all that it puts so much pressure on the defense that they are bound to make mistakes. Last night they let up 2 goals to the Lightning who have some great offensive players (before the empty net, etc ,etc). That isn't bad. But we had basically zero offense outside of a few minutes in the third. We need skill up front. With that I think our D zone will improve.

This team needs to play like they did for the middle 10 minutes or so in last nights third period -- ALL THE TIME. Uptempo, aggressive, puck hounding with a touch of physicality. Without it we f***ed.

But do that and you spend time in the opponents zone and relieve pressure on a defensive system (notice I didn't limit it to poor Mason Lohrei) that clearly needs settling.

However, that kind of effort and intensity has been largely missing this year -- I don't know why. As I said in GDT last night, I expected that kind of hard working team when the season started.

Maybe the problem is that there is not one player on the team who, in his right mind, is afraid of losing his job. Cupboards are barer than any time in recent history.

Honest question old timers -- can you remember a time when our prospect pool was so diminished? Off hand I cannot, but will think about it. Either way, it's dark.

One goal or fewer in 5 of their last 7.
