HF Habs: Trade Proposal Thread #89: 2024-2025 season part II

https://www.tsn.ca/nhl/video/early-trading-oilers-looking-for-upgrade-on-d~3059993

To summarize:
Lebrun says the Devils covet Evans
Habs want to resign Evans but not at the amount or term he would likley get as a UFA
Savard is a player the Oilers are considering

For those that have been able to watch recently (not me), are we ready to trade Savard and give the keys to being Xhekaj's partner to Struble? Is Strubke ready? Is Xhekaj ready to have such a young partner?

Assuming we want to have the best possible team to make the playoffs and develop Xhekaj long term.

Flip a coin.............the last 3 games, both The Sherriff and Struble have been pretty good.....the problem of course every time we go back to we don't have enough RHD to make the pairs work, so trading Savard if he fetches something good would be great, but we don't have another righty ready.

The Xhekaj/Struble pairing had a rough 1st game together but have done well since then. But trading Savard isn't just a question of are those two doing well, it's also we are one injury away from calling up Mailloux or Engstrom both of whom we want to be in the AHL.

No thanks, dude has 6 hits in 29 games. Can we get someone who can actually defend?

I agree.

We need either high-end defensemen ala Rasmus Andersson (wouldn't be cheap at all to acquire in trade, might also bolt in UFA) that could stay with us for multiple seasons, or some more two-way guys like Guhle.

A primarily offensive guy with defensive miscues like Drysdale is quite far from what we need considering that Hutson looks like the "real deal" and will need to be better surrounded.

I'd personally love it if the front office would target Jamie Drysdale(not to say hes available).
Drysdale seems like the classic target, former high draft pick, only 22, hasn't exactly played to his potential and has been dealing with injuries since being traded.
I think he could be Ghule's partner of the future and could man the #2 PP.

Not exactly sure if the flyers would even consider it but the team has assets to move.
A trade could look something like:
Mailloux and 1st for Drysdale
Reinbacher for Drysdale
Newhook and Mailloux for Drysdale+
Specially since he sucks at playing defense. He would seriously fit and replace Barron in our complaints.

I don’t even know what I would want from NJ for Evans since they don’t have there 1st round pick
Hugues said in his presser yesterday that he'll start to aim for picks in later years when trading.
So he'll still have picks to give up if he wants to go get help for the team next season(s).

I'm guessing he'd ask for a 2026 1st for Evans.

Maybe Chase Stillman..
HuGo aren't perfect but I think they know what they are doing. If they don't want to sign Evans long term, they will have a backup plan for a stop gap C until Beck, Kapanen, and Hage are ready.

And that backup plan won't be like when Bergevin let Danault walk, didn't match KK, and then used a 1st and a 2nd on Dvo. Or when he didn't bring back Markov, Sergachev, and Emelin, brought in Alzner and Schlemko, and said, "the defense is better ... on a Lernout."

Perhaps I was overvaluing Drysdale but I still think he's an ideal trade target.
I'd be of the preference to keep newhook over mailloux if it meant moving one or the other. Newhook will be pushed down the depth chat once demidov shows up(hopefully) and slots in on the 3rd line and could still potential fill in on top 6 incase of injury.
Maybe something like Mailloux and a 2nd for Drysdale.
At the risk of sounding heightist, I don't think that the team should collect sub-6-footers on its blueline, with Huston there for a while and Carrier also settling in. I'd make an exception for Ray Bourque at his peak, 5'11 and tough, but there is a need for defensemen with a bit more intimidation. We need to look at what the top defending teams like Vegas are doing, to make noise in the playoffs.

Wow everyone is just so positive :P

While I like Carrier, I don't view him as a long term piece, more of a stop gap. Yes, I understand size = good but it's not everything.
Drysdale is an all world skater with good hockey sense and playmaking, only 4 years removed from being drafted as a potential top pair defenseman. He's had some bad injury luck and has had to play on some bad hockey clubs since becoming an NHLer. He may never amount to anything but I'd take the chance.

Rasmus Andersson is of course of great interest if the habs intend to be 'in the mix', however why would Calgary trade him if they are also trying to win? Just for shits and giggles, could a trade of Matheson and Calgarys 1st for Andersson work as a base?

The team also cannot move Jake Evans under any circumstance if they are in or near a playoff spot, UFA or not. He is a major part of the teams success and is home grown. I can't imagine trading him being anything but demoralizing.
If the habs go cold and fall out of the race is the only way he should be traded.
Maybe Evans and Mailloux for Nemec :D

I also think Evans will stay in the end unless his demands are not realistic.

But if it's the case.....get creative, let's add and try to get Nemec.
With Hamilton, Pesce, Kovacevic and even Casey in front of him, pretty sure he'll be move at some point
Evans (agrees to extend with the devils) + our better 1st in 2025.

Probably would need to add other piece they can use for the playoffs.

And probably would have to take a cap dump from them like Haula.
