Beck and Hage are going nowhere for me.

If we add an early 10's pick, the other piece we add can be a B prospect or a 2nd rounder.

That said, I think this a pretty valuable package for the Canucks because the also get a top 4 PMD it's been reported they were looking for. But in order to work out, they would need to believe Dach is a decent/solid 2nd line center. So if the deal were to happen right now, I don't think they would be ok with the downgrade at 2C. But Dach is getting there slowly. Maybe at the deadline or this summer, it's another story.
If I’m Hughes, and any of my hockey people came to me with a proposal involving the trading of Hage, I’m immediately re-assigning them to a position more suited to their abilities: merchandise sales.

I think we'll need to address the balance in handedness of our center line in the near future.

Suzuki, Dach, Evans, Beck, Kapanen, Hage are all righties.

DVO is the only leftie, and he's gone after this year. Newhook is a short-term temporary solution only, so we'll eventually need a leftie, ideally 2nd or 3rd line center level.

I just saw Kaliyev was placed on waivers yesterday. He was a player I was interested in trading for a la young NHL forward who is stuck in the Bottom-6 due to the team's depth, similar to acquiring Newhook.

Habs do have a roster spot available and nobody on IR. He'd be someone I wouldn't mind claiming.

Isn't he a notorious dog f'er on the ice though?

I remembered we had some interest on this board, but he's back from a conditioning stint and a somewhat serious injury. I think teams will respectfully let him clear.

Doesn't skate fast enough for a MSL team.

He's just back from an injury and only played on a conditioning stint in the AHL this year, basically RHP story (different injury).

They never picked him up. Must be a reason

Brock Nelson... a centre
thoughts? of a trade

Better for one of the contenders. Age 33 and running out of gas but still has some gas to give for a playoff run. Avs would be a good fit.

If the Habs make a move for a pending UFA, it should be sign/trade or someone we feel can be part of our mix in the next few years. Nelson doesn't fit IMO and rather keep the 1st

Possible guy to claim but closer to the TDL when Dvorak and Armia are traded. Avoids us from taking someone out of the Laval playoff run.

Yeah, skating was his knock pre draft and still is. I do like shooters and he is one of them but he's limited with skating

I don't think he skates well enough to be an effective Top Six NHL player.

I'd pass.

Wouldn't worry about replacements for Armia and Dvorak. With only one retention spot left including Savard, I am sure the return will include a draft pick and NHL salary at least equal to theirs.

Hughes should really be looking at upgrading Dvorak and Savard. Being in the mix is nice and all, but all it takes is one bad stretch or an injury to have the wheels completely fall off. Connor Murphy and Ryan O'Reilly would be awesome additions.
I think the upgrade on Savard will come in the offseason. In fact, there is still lot of work to be done on the RD. Yes Carrier is a nice piece, but I'm still of the opinion that you need to swap Matheson for a RD that can play with Huston. You also have to integrate Reinbacher at some point. I suspect that he may start in Laval once ready to play at the end of March. So ideally, I would see next season

Guhle - Carrier
Hutson - [new RD]
Xhakaj - Reinbacher
Struble - Savard

I'm absolutely not giving up Poehling for ROR. No thanks.

There's no reason to assume we don't also upgrade the RD in the offseason. Savard should ideally be a #6 dman on a good day, Carrier is a #4, Reinbacher just missed a whole year so you'd want him to play a ton of minutes in Laval ideally, and Mailloux looks far away.

The Matheson situation can be evaluated in the offseason again, but we should really look at a guy like Murphy since I'm assuming Dobson/Anderson/Parayko will be absurdly expensive.
