I’ve often posted about Mailloux over the past three years. My posts have identified Mailloux’s strengths ( great offensive vision, the best first pass I’ve seen since Subban, good size and a heavy shot) and the bad ( limited defensive acumen and less than stellar skating). My pessimism about Mailloux’s potential is rooted in his poor skating. He is unable to beat / avoid the forecheck and cannot consistently transport the puck from his defensive zone through neutral ice into the offensive zone. That lack of mobility will always materially limit Mailloux’s impact at the next level.Damn Chester - you're hard on Mailloux. Lol
I trust your scouting, so im down on his potential, but.. considering RHD is a position of scarcity, should he not be someone we fit in to the #5 slot? Or is he not at all an NHL player?
Unless he can gain that extra needed level of speed ( which at this stage is highly unlikely) I can’t see Mailloux being anything more than a fringe NHL defenceman. I have often suggested that Mailloux be converted to a forward to capitalize on his attributes. Bottom line, if a reasonable offer comes through, I move Mailloux without hesitation.
