Define buying?

If Habs are within 6pts of wildcard at deadline none of the pending UFAs will likely be dealt - which in essence would be “think of them as deadline acquisitions”

Also wouldn’t be shocked if HuGo would look into acquiring a veteran backup + 13F IF the price tag is mid round pick
He won't be looking for another goaltender unless Dobes fades.

Small sample size but since we got Carrier Savards TOI has dropped, and now he has missed a couple games. And the D is doing alright. In other words it looks like the Habs are okay without Savard, so he is tradeable.

Moving all of Evans , Armia and Dvo would be a problem, and especially on the PK. My sense of Hughes is that Evans would be signed by now if Hughes thinks he fits as part of the team going forward and the contract fits. So I'm thinking there is a contract impasse, and Evans is on his way out.

I think Evans and Savard each can get a couple seconds and up to a 1st.

We will have a lot of assets , including possibly 4 1sts to make moves this off season. If Dach hasn't turned it around we will need a 2C and while not urgent, we may be on the look out for a top pair RHD if Hughes doesn't think Matheson fits longer term.

If you really think Savard is useless on the bottom pair for a team like the Habs, why would a contender pay a 1st for him ?

Three NHL GMs will be attending the Rocket's game against Abbotsford tonight: Kyle Dubas, Bill Armstrong and Don Sweeney.

That's very special. I don't remember seeing so many senior executives in attendance at one time for a game at Place Bell." - Anthony Marcotte

It doesn't get much better, for an NHL GM, then getting call from Kyle Dubas to make a trade.

Up until Carrier, Savard was getting good TOI and he was playing well. So it's not about him being bad, he is a solid, big, defensive RHD, and I'm guessing he could help a number of teams. It's just that Carrier is playing well and with the play of other Dmen Savard looks expendable. And in the play offs his size and style of play is more valuable, including for us but I don't know if that's on the horizon this year.

What do you mean?
If for example Carrier is injured around the time of the TDL then the price for us to trade Savard will go up dramatically because his value to us has also gone up. If we are 100% healthy and Struble has more and more games like he did in Colorado showing that he does deserve to play regular minutes then Savards value to us drops and we would be more willing to accept a deal without an overpayment.

Dach has been better lately but I would love to upgrade our 2C.

I’m torn on Petterson though

I think we should package our firsts and go after an established player. We have demidov coming next year. We're ready to take the next step. I don't want to wait 3 or 4 years for whoever we draft at 15 to maybe become good player. It is time

Is there any other bad contract that could be worth gambling on for Slaf before the remaining shine of a first overall wears off?
1st overall status doesn't wear after only 3 years, Daigle travelled around the league for 10 years, Yakupov did it for 5 years but Yakupov best season was 33 points not even close to Slaf. People are so impatient this is crazy.

You shouldn’t be surprised, a lot of people in the fanbase are notoriously impatient. Look at all the posts blasting Dach regardless of his major surgery and having missed a season and yet now he’s playing similarly to how he was pre-injury.

Dach was acquired as a potential 2C. Maybe he settles in as a winger and Hage is the likely guy?
He could settle as a good bottom 6 center also. Maybe it would be a good shift for him to go defense first. Less pressure this way.

I feel that if Hage gets to be the one settling on the lower lines, it means we never really had any intention of keeping Dach past his current deal.

The more people overate a player, the more impatience you'll get. Just facts of life in all domains.

Umm No.
We can't have Mike Matheson playing 28 minutes a game so if we want to move a right D we'd better have a roster ready experienced replacement.
Things would eventually unravel very very quickly otherwise.

He also said they were there likely because of the fact that the WJC were close by and there was a break in the schedule that day.
