Totally agree, Suzuki is the Captain, a very complete player.I mean, EP has that offensive flair, but Suz is just a complete player with consistent effort.
Doesn’t mean EP sucks. I just don’t think this team is better swapping Suz for him

That's a no brainerCall me crazy, I prefer Suz over EP at this point in their respective careers.
Hey Crazy, I have the same preference.Call me crazy, I prefer Suz over EP at this point in their respective careers.
He also has no drama associated with him. Pretty hard thing to accomplish in this market as captain.Totally agree, Suzuki is the Captain, a very complete player.
For Pettersson I’d go with Matheson, Beck + 1stPetterssons highs might be higher, but Suzuki is reliable, never injured, a fantastic leader creating a locker room atmosphere players coming in remark immediately. He's a culture setter and never pouts. Gervais had great words in his book for Suzuki. A Pettersson trade makes sense for other assets (Caufield, Dach, Beck, Hage, Mailloux). I don't think Vancouver would be interested though.
Unless VAN would like a package centered about quantity (they'd need to take back crazy salary to make it work) I wouldn't bother for EP or JTM.
Caufield? Why would we trade our goal scoring machine? After 30 years of starving for goals. At 11.6 million they can keep him. I agree Suzuki > Pettersson, it's not always about points.Petterssons highs might be higher, but Suzuki is reliable, never injured, a fantastic leader creating a locker room atmosphere players coming in remark immediately. According to the deal but future second line of Pettersson, Laine and Demidov is tempting. Pettersson be a 100 point playing with those 2I love the idea of a big gamble as much as the next guy, but Pettersson is too much risk imo. Ever since his contract extension last season his stats have taken a considerable nose dive and apparently he's been struggling with tendinitis.
If we made a trade for him and gave up multiple prime assets like Caufield/1st/Mailloux/Beck etc... and he ends up just being 60-70 point guy making 11.6 million, then that could single handedly sink our rebuild.

Theoretically we don't need those prospects or picks, especially if we are solving our 2C problem for the next 5-8 years. I wouldn't give them any of our young roster players. If you're trading Pettersson it's probably time for a rebuild in Vancouver, might as well trade Hughes as well.I would not deplete prospect pool like this for any player when the contending window is not even open yet, 6 good Games are not enough to make MTL a contender (fyi SJS just beat TBL too )
VAN is my second favorite team and they d want NHL players rather than prospects given the fact that Demko and Hughes are in their prime.
Demko plays hockey? ya i get it with Hughes, he's a great player (easily top 2 dman with Makar) but that team is basically a 1 man team, VAN is nothing without HughesI would not deplete prospect pool like this for any player when the contending window is not even open yet, 6 good Games are not enough to make MTL a contender (fyi SJS just beat TBL too )

You don't trade a 24yo franchise player you build around him. Hronek is a good physical 3D when healthy (overpaid still), Miller and EP are a good 1-2 punch. Demko is a very good goalie coming back from an injury. Add to that Garland Boeser Debrusk as good top 6 wingers, Joshua Blueger Sherwood as gritty bottom 6 guys, Soucy as good bottom pair D...Theoretically we don't need those prospects or picks, especially if we are solving our 2C problem for the next 5-8 years. Canucks are going to want now, not futures. That trade won't go. You be looking at a Pettersson deal build around Caufield. Or a Beck/Matheson combo.Pettersson @ 3 million retained = 8.6 million

No thanks to EP. We shouldn't chase players like that. We've kept the costs down for our first line, and Laine, demidov and hutson will need contracts soon. I get that we have the assets to afford him in a fair deal, but we should be targeting less expensive additions
We have generous posters in here. Giving up assets left and right like candy.Just a friendly reminder that star players rarely go for what they’re presumably worth. I’ve lost count of how many HF meltdowns I’ve seen where Habs could’ve easily matched an offer for a star player but didn’t get them.
Doubt EP or Miller will go for anything close to what some of these proposals are giving away.
Slippery slope on EP40...................not sure if we should entertain at all. And then, the other side of the coin is make the guy happy by leaving a toxic show and get a 100pt player??There is plenty of room to sign Laine, Demidov and Hutson and still fit EP in. If cap space is the reason not to trade for EP, I don't agree with the narrative.
* Savard, Armia, Dvorak, Matheson, Gallagher, Anderson = $28.23M
* Price = 10.5M (we didn't need his contract on LTIR to start the season)
* Cap will grow from $88M to $95M+ by the time Laine and Demidov needs raises. That's another $7M more (min)
That's $45.73M freed up in 2 more seasons. Yeah, Guhle, Slaf, and Hutson to get raises as well and even when you add Demidov and Laine, it still fits easily.
Habs are in a great salary cap situation and if we can trade for EP or anybody with a talent like that, we should. He fits the core age around Suzuki to Demidov and this should be our strategy. Adding pieces around Suzuki age or in between Suzuki/Demidov.
