Yeah, you can trade for players on IR. Medical information just has to be cleared. You can't say a player is healthy then he arrives to his new team injured. Buffalo traded for Patrick Kane from Winnipeg when Kane was on LTIR. He was out the rest of that season.

There was an instance where Philadelphia waived a player and Montreal claimed him only to find he was injured (knee). You can't waive an injured player, so Montreal complained to the league, as did the player. NHL reversed the process, so he went back to Philadelphia.

Carrier has been cleared to play.
Blair Betts.

And Evander Kane, Patrick's brother 🤣

Hutson is making Matheson more expandable by the game, there's definitely some inevitability there. I just hope a decent veteran 2C is the return, even if we have to add a bit on top to make it happen.
That's the most important thing right there, we need to find another veteran to replace Matheson. We cannot have the mindset that Mailloux or Reinbacher can come in next year and do the job. Very risky and Reinbacher might need a season in Laval, if not 2!

Next year's D:

Hutson-R. Andersson
Matheson-Carrier
Guhle-Reinbacher

Mailloux gone as part of an Andersson deal and I really don't think they trade Matheson yet.
I think they're willing to trade Matheson for the right offer.
Dreger just said as much.

He's not on multiple trade boards for nothing.

I agree... I wouldn't be surprise to see him leave for a C at some point.

Then you swing Mailloux+++ for a RD updrade

I think Hughes is gonna wait until next year so he can pull a sign and trade with Matheson. Gotta make sure Quartexx gets paid and if he has a good season could milk some value

I gotta wonder if we were in on Borgen because we immediately made a trade for an experienced RD once he moved.

Could be a coincidence. Preds/Habs might have been waiting for Carrier to be cleared by the doctors before finalizing the trade and Trotz tried to acquire Barron last year, so it seems he initiated the trade.

I think a big trade is coming. Too many assets. Way too many assets. Matheson isn't a long term solution.

I would not be surprised between now and deadline if habs get a 1st pairing defender.

That's a crap return. 2nd player they sent 2000 miles from New York. Lol
Habs could have easily beaten that, assuming they believe in Kaako.

If Habs really want him, they can always make a later pitch to get around the 2000 mile geographical imperative and Drury. 🥹

A RD or C... problem is will KH find a dancing partner?

Rasmus Andersson is the obvious target. Silly if Calgary retains him. Not sure I qualify him as a top pairing D, but he is quite good.
he may be a target, but Cal may not want to let him go now or for what MTL offers.

I certainly would love him
