Other than Hutson, I don't think at this point there is any player more untouchable to Hughes than Hage . You're taking about a player who is excelling in the NCAA against high end, accomplished players many of whom are 4 to 5 years older than him. Hage, who plays a premier position, possess high end skating and offensive skills, is on track to developing into a game breaking offensive force. He'll only get more dominant as he gets stronger. There's no way Hughes is trading away that potential. He doesn't want the infamy of having traded away a future star.
Absolutely.

Not to mention the incredible Cinderella backstory that’s also attached to this young man and his connections to the Habs and city of Montreal.

Other then:
Suzuki
Guhle
Demidov
Slafovsky
Reinbacher

Maybe yes

A 2nd line centre is hard to find. no Maybe centres, KH needs to bide his time and use the draft picks he has to find a good 2nd centre that can win draws

no project centre pls
I would also prefer a proven C, but this type of player may not be available. What is your alternative then? Would you say no to Cozen for exemple?

I'm not sure if he won't age well.. he didn't have much mileage on his body until coming to Florida. I don't think we'd even get him, he still represents the idea more than the man.
He hasn't exceeded 71 games played since 2017-18, had a shoulder surgery at 18yo that delayed his season debut in 2014, and his game relies on physicality. Him aging well past 30yo would be the proverbial exception to the rule.

If no indisputable 1st line C is available through the trade market, Habs shouldn't go with the "top available" one, as these need too long contracts. Personally I prefer an aging former glory stopgap combined with a lot of darts. Aging vets always find another gear in Montreal. As someone else mentioned, I'd prefer a free Henrique to an overpaid Bennett.

Fair enough - I'm not pushing for Sam Bennett, just using him as an example.

If they can find an option on the trade market or UFA that effectively improves upon Suzuki or Dach, they are going to do so, regardless if Dach finds his game later in this season or not.

That's where I think a lot of the Dach discourse is losing focus; people are acting like having Dach on the team is making Hugo wait to pursue a center but even if Dach was performing, I don't think they would ever stop looking at an upgrade down the middle unless it was unequivocally a strength.. which it is not in either 1C or 2C right now.

Psssst.... Demidov is looking at you kinda weird right now.

oh, I agree with the rest of what you said. :D
Eliminate the Putin factor, and I would put Demidov on a par with Hage. Until he's over here, Hage is a more valuable asset. In addition, Hage is a superior skater. But with Hage, Hutson, Demidov and Beck the future of our top 6, if not top 9 is looking much better. And with us getting one of Hagens, Martone, Misa, Desnoyers or McQueen at the next draft (Schaefer is going 1 OA) that top 9 will be deadly.

I listened to this early.

Marinaro says it came from Button, who's an idiot and probably said to do it 1 for 1.

Marinaro covers other sports, but does Engels ?

If not, Engels is an idiot.
What sports does Tony ever talk about besides soccer and the Habs ? O wait I remember when he said he would rather have Jimmy Garoppolo than Tom Brady. lol

idiot

The president of the Russian Federation has his finger on the button… the keep Ivan Demidov in Russia button… analysts around the Free West are befuddled as to why the leader of Russia spends so much of his attention on товарищ демидов… the clock is about to strike midnight and no one knows if we’ll wake up tomorrow morning…

Are the rags cleaning house all of a sudden? Because I don't see this as being a smart move for them in any way...
I can't make sense of it but there were problems with players not liking how Trouba was dealt with and I get it.

All these Drury public threats sound like he’s just a mouthpiece for Dolan.

Three wins by the Rags in their last 13 games — the wins coming against the Habs, Sabres and Pens. 💀
Guy should walk away. Puppet GMs, like Houle, leave a bad legacy.

The rumors is that the Rangers players all hate Drury right now and even had a player-only meeting over it. So that team isn't going to get better, which also means there might be some options get some of those players for cheap for a savvy GM.

But Drury hates Gorton so won't be the Habs.

I dont think Cozen
I really feel KH will package a 1st ++ and get a proven vet center man.
that being said, who is out there, I was going to look at teams and see what stands out to me

That would be a first since Damphousse? I don't expect it happening...

I feel it will, but it will happen before the draft in june or at the draft

wethree? thoughts?

I don't see it happening unless we get a 1st for Matheson; the Calgary pick is trending to be way too valuable to not be used to pick and I don't see us in a hurry to trade our 1st, especially considering 2026 is McKenna and 2027 is Dupont, can't afford to be wrong on your progression this early in a rebuild.

If someone comes available, not sure who that would be.. but a similar Eichel situation, sure, things like that you have to do.

But a Cozens tier? No. We have to be talking about a clear 1C that upgrades Suzuki.

I don't think may would cry uncontrollably if Slafkovsky, Reinbacher or even Guhle were traded for a good return. Suzuki, as the captain, is unlikely to be traded. I don't know if Montreal has ever traded a current captain.

But on merit/value/potential, Hutson, Hage and Demidov (with the caveat as mentioned above) are as untouchable as you can get.

agreed no Cozens tier at all.... 1st ++ needs to be a very proven good centre man that is not 40 years old

It makes no sense that Drury would dislike Gorton. If he does he is an even bigger idiot than I thought if he does.

I'm asking because I'm curious how much hate I'll get for this but regardless of the cost, what would you guys think about Zibanejad for our 2C spot? (assuming a deal could be made and he would accept to waive his NMC)

Being Bergy back as a consultant. He’s was at least great at trades.

If they bring Bergevin back in any fashion I am OUT. For REAL

I managed to quit coke cold turkey, I'm strong enough to quit the Habs as well.

ok it was Coca Cola, but still.

Still a very good player but too risky imo.

But I'm probably not the best to respond to your post because I think the no.2 C spot should be filled with the next draft, as opposed to the top 4 RHD

The beef isn't all that clear, but it was reported a few months after Gorton joined the Habs organization (might be some Dolan's effect in there).

At the same time, I just saw some not-fully sourced rumor that Kakko asked for a trade today.

To be completely honest, I thought he talked about more, but I only listen to him on his podcast, which is obviously all hockey.

I assumed on BPM sports he'd be forced to talk about other sports.

Do you know what coca-cola oriiginally was and why it was a hit?
