They would be crazy not to keep him, unless he doesn't want to resign. If there's any chance at all, we should 100% make them the best offer we can, he'd be a team changer.
You're seeing players not wanting to stay in bad situations.

The Islander situation isn't the greatest as the team is still offensively starved.

He could ask for a trade, get to a better situation (potentially) and get his money.

There's a slight chance he asks for a trade/tells them he won't sign long-term.

Man... Drury seems to be a bit of a **** lol.

I know Gorton isn't a fan either. This won't do him any favours in the eyes of players, either.

Too bad New York is a favored destination for UFAs in general.
Meh...it's part of his job.

Trouba would be a great teacher for our young physical D.

Xhekaj - Trouba would be one hell of a punishing duo.

Teams that can claim him without making another move because they have the cap space: Ducks, Jackets, Utah, Habs, LA & Isles.

Among those teams, the ones who have a roster spot available at this moment: Utah, Habs & LA

There is no way we’ll utilize all that cap space. We have room for Trouba if we want him.

In this case, it's Trouba who holds most of the cards. Does he want to move up north with a newborn and his wife who is completing her residency in NYC? I think it's highly unlikely.

He could be the veteran RD I was hoping we'd get to start the season. He comes with some caveats, but our organization know his plusses and minuses better than most. The real question is if he'd be interested in coming to Montreal in the first place.

It may be the move closest to home, where his family can remain in NY. The other options may all imply moving everyone up.

He has only 1 year left after this one also, so maybe it doesn't matter that much.

Flights to and from Montreal are under 2 hours,.so not a long distance compared to being sent out west.

Have to imagine he wants to stay east and around New York

Send Struble/Barron back, waive the other.

Get Trouba and more assets for taking on his full cap.

Hope when he tries to kill someone he doesn't miss and hit a hab
Trouba and a 2nd for Barron. Done.

I doubt Trouba is nursing his newborn at 3AM. He 100% has nanny support. They will be fine.

There were some reports that Habs were looking for a Top-4 RD.

Honestly, I'd be surprised if Habs are involved in all of this. But they were looking for someone to play in their Top-4.

Maybe they're looking for a D pairings of:

Guhle - Matheson
Hutson - Trouba
Xjekaj - Savard

Hard to say. Gorton's the one who signed his contract in the first place, but he also hates the Rangers org so...

We'll see.
