I think the fit was also awkward, some fans just like the offensive talent and friendship with Caufield.

I for one am interested in Zegras but only if the cost is something we can afford. I did not like Zegras's performance at the WC's with Caufield. Not something I will completely focus on but also not something I will ignore.

Zero interest if the asking price is one of 5th OA, Guhle, Reinbacher.

Another guy I would be interested in is Cole Perfetti that would fit the mold, but the issue I see with him it that he's another forward on the smaller side.

I went around all of the potential targets yesterday evening and I don't see a whole lot of obvious guys that would fit the usual criteria. They're either too proven or not enough proven.

I think it's actually likely we keep the 26th this season.
Unless we move with something else to grab another early pick.

I would love to know Hughes and Gorton's approach with talking with the Ducks. They obviously has had several conversations for months now. Lebrun said they are talking again and I don't think this is a rumor reach.

I would assume 5th OA, Guhle, and Reinbacher are off the table but they talked more and more so there are other parts being discussed. Unless you think Hughes will trade one of the 3.

What would you say if it's Hutson and Jets 1st for Zegras? Like or dislike?
Hutson isn’t a little ball of hate type of player

This is the quote I also read. “I think Anaheim and Montreal have reconnected regarding Zegras. However, I don’t think this is a path the Habs will pursue aggressively.” – Pierre LeBrun

Seems fair to me because I feel the same. We are interested but not desperate.

I'm not sure how I would react to that trade. Would you like or dislike?

Lundell, Laine, Kyrou. I am not sure who else the habs could be interested in

Probably interested in the RFA who will be sold for cheaper than where they were drafted. Like Dach and Newhook. That to me screams Kakko but not sure I like this idea.

Hopefully none for the moment , id rather use picks to get rid of our scrap first and let players like Roy have a real chance.

Yeah, I think if the cost is too high for players like Zegras and Necas, we just stay put and draft. We can tinker with trades at a later date when another player becomes available. Maybe during the season or next off season.

Best to keep assembling a strong pool and yeah, lets not block Roy. Players become available all the time so we should not marry ourselves to making this move in one off season. It's usually based on circumstance/timing.

I get the feeling most would not like it. But then I wonder what we would say a week or so after it if the trade actually happened. I have seen this go back/forth a fair amount. Romanov was not one most of us wanted to trade but today, we say yeah, he was not untouchable.

If there is a Zegras trade, I do wonder what we trade.

I think Hutson is the “weapon” Hughes & MSL have been waiting for to implement their on ice philosophy

For sure. I was just wondering what the replies would be if we did do a trade like that. No idea if Hughes would. Probably not but you never know for sure.

Ducks and Habs did talk a lot. WTF are they talking more and more for then? They can't be far apart if the conversations keep happening right? I don't see this as the Ducks not liking he quantity offers but the Habs keep making them. I think Hughes is smarter than the HF posters. haha.

i can't see them having any interest in that kind of swap at this time. Hutson's game + his leadership qualities/work ethic are about as aligned to the type of team/culture KH & co. are building as any player out there. Next to Suzuki/Slaf, Hutson might well be the least likely player this habs management group would be willing to trade IMO.

will be interesting to see what the Ducks end up getting for Zegras. Assuming PV is holding a high value on the player, I think it's unlikely he finds a trade partner willing to offer a "quality for quality" asset that matches Zegras' value "on paper".

I define a top player as a top 6F, Top 3D or starting goalie. I don't care about guys playing in the NHL, I care about Top Players.

The 5th overall pick turns up a top player about 60 % of the time. No.7 I think k it's over 60%n 10th OA It's about 35% and 6, 8 and 9 are about 50%, as I recall. So lucky 7.

I was surprised at how low the success rate is in the top 10, though obviously its alot higher than outside the top 10.

It's just cold reality. Every year people drool over the draft and we love this kid and that kid, but in the top 10 you just connect more often than not and after that less often and very quickly it's a long shot.

EDIT: Want to add though, 25% of players taken at 5th OA end up being 1st line players. That is pretty significant.

I would keep an eye on Lundell and Florida, as far as our "annual young NHL player acquisition" is concerned.

Florida doesn't have a 1st round pick this season, they have tons of important signings to do, Lundell is up for a new contract, and I could see them choosing to re-sign Montour and Reinhart before a young guy like Lundell. They also could use a guy like Harris who's dependable and cheap on their 3rd pair.

I don't know if the guy is going to be available nor what it would take to get him, but it's the kind of situation where I think Hughes is going to be all ears.

If I had to bet I would think the Panthers are likely to hang on to him, but you never know.

I'd still offer something like Winnipeg's 1st round pick, Colorado's 2nd round pick and Jordan Harris for Lundell.
Teams like tampa and Florida etc eventually have to sacrifice good players. Like jt miller for example. For my pool I always watch for good teams that sacrifice good players due to cap pressure. Yeah Habs should be on the lookout for such players

If Hughes brings back Monahan and manages to again trade him for what would be a third first round choice they will be studying Hughes’s transactional dexterity in business schools for the next half century.
I have a feeling this will happen again. He will topple Sam Pollock and possibly any GM out there in sports history. While there at it, bring back Toffoli too and trade him for futures again. The Habs will continuously be replenished.

Montreal
Stamkos, Laine, Lundell, Kyrou, Kent Johnson.

I can see these as targets. Added two more names to the list. I still think Necas is an option.
