Screw that idea. Gurianov had some previous history producing in the NHL with a 20 goal season (in 64 games) and a productive playoff when Dallas went to the NHL Final. Wahlstrom couldn't even produce in the AHL. He is what he is which is a brutal NHLer who belongs in a landfill.
The point was that Harris for Wahlstrom doesn't seem like an even deal to me, that's all. And if the Habs really had an interest in the player should be more of an even deal. Wahlstrom could be a good candidate to go on waivers before too long.

Tampa's got nothing interesting to offer. They don't have a 1st round pick before 2026. And their prospects/young players aren't interesting enough.
2026 1st rounder would be fine, it would allow the habs to get a decent pick, especially with Tampa on the decline , without Kucherov being amazing this year Tampa is in a fight to just make the playoffs, plus that core will be a few years older in a few seasons, lets not forget about contract limits for teams

True. Not to mention by 2026, you imagine Habs will be more in a buyer mode than sellers. So that 2026 1st could come in handy in a trade before the TDL.

I just don't see any upside to adding Wahlstrom even on a flier. Agreed that Harris for Wahlstrom isn't an even deal as Harris has value and still has some upside.

No team's going to trade a 2026 1st this far in advance without it being lottery protected.

Doubtful Habs suddenly turn into buyers next season. We'll have the same amount of injuries, we'll play the same players, and will most likely be slightly better defensively. I like to be optimistic about Savard and Matheson's value then. I'm more pessimistic with players that haven't cracked the line up even though they had the opportunity to do so: Barron, Heineman, Ylonen.

If we trade Savard it's harder to be optimistic with our defense as any progression teamwork-wise would get atrophied, and we'd need to pray that Reinbacher or Mailloux can break a sweat at 20-22 minutes per NHL game. It's not obvious, and can hurt much more. Matheson's value without Savard can take a serious hit.

In the end the real value we need to foster is Reinbacher, Mailloux and Hutson. It doesn't really matter if we get a late 1st for Savard or not imho.
I doubt the Habs are playoff contenders next season either, but anything is possible. Keeping Savard has some value for the development of the young players and shows a commitment from management to having the right guys in the dressing room. If the Habs decide to trade him at this year's deadline for a good return (ie. 1st rounder or better), I'm not heartbroken over it. If they decide to trade him at a later date or keep him until his contract expires, I'm not going to lose sleep over that either.

For the record, I don't think they are going to trade him at this year's deadline. I think the Habs are pretty much done moving players out. I don't see teams having much interest in what the Habs have to offer.

Personally I find that to be a bit of a myth, fans assume there will be more supply because a bunch of guys are UFAs to be, but in reality more often then not those top UFAs get signed before they hit FA and teams are left with very little actual supply in July. Teams also get stupid as an overaction to a playoff loss so it cuts both ways.
Off the top of my head, I can't think of too many teams that overpaid in a trade for a player in the offseason. Not like they do at the deadline when the season is on the line. I doubt a guy like Kulak gets a 2nd rounder in the offseason. Teams tend to overpay for depth a lot more at the TDL than during the offseason. Plus, it's not just free agency though, it's teams restructuring that make players available as well. For example the Habs traded Romanov at the draft a couple years ago. Why trade for Savard when you can get a younger cheaper Romanov. Obviously, Islanders paid a hefty price, but they got a player that wouldn't likely be available at TDL.

I do see your point though. The UFA market does shrink before free agency actually begins. If Savard were a solid top 4 defenseman there would less concern about his value going down in the offseason. If the Habs don't trade him at this year's deadline, I think they would have a better chance of getting a better return for him at next year's TDL than in the offseason as long as he doesn't regress or get hurt before then.

According to Dany Dube, apparently Rangers are regularly following us lately. He said that tonight. Who would they fancy? Evans perhaps?

something around Caufield for Brady Tkachuk ?

You know it won’t happen but who says no ? Who says yes ?

We would need to add of course and probably won’t happen but I feel it’s an interesting thought sorry if it has been discussed.

Maybe Pearson
I could see Pearson but I think Armia. He would really solidify the rangers bottom 6 options as they have ELC guys including Rempe who might not be needed come playoff time. The Rangers just need to put Armia in his spot, let him kill penalties and eat the clock when the Rangers are winning, and he'll probably chip in a few goals.

How highly valued is Edstrom? Is it worth trying to pry him away?

Mantha going for a 2nd and 4th shows how things can change. A year ago he was unmovable. At ,5.7 million with term and 11 goals. Hope for Dvorak and Anderson

Not working =/= suit "our" system.

And you can reduce Anderson's ice time without trading him. Veterans can benefit from a reset on the same team too (see Armia).
You have Slaf, Caufield, Roy, Newhook, RHP, They all deserve to be above Anderson on wing depth. Hopefully, we bring some other piece in the summer which would put Anderson on 4th line. We already need to accept Gallagher as 4th liner for next season, so let jus tmove one of them out if we get the opportunity.

Hanifin could sign for less in Tampa what he turned down in Calgary and still take home more. No state taxes in Florida
