They are happy with winning the regular season in some ways. Somehow.

But the Leafs have no cap space. I have no idea how Klingberg was fitting on the roster at the start of the season.
There is a lot of creative accounting over in TO...................players get put on LTIR who seem to be healthy, ready to join the lineup, and told no..........no you are not healthy.
Quite the game over there...................
Their cap looks worse next year......Willy and Matty get raises!! lol

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder… TBay gave up a 1st leading Savard to be labelled a “Cup winner”.
I'm talking about Savard's value to the Canadiens as a player on the ice in terms of the bird in the hand metaphor as I don't think that really applies to him from our perspective. For a playoff team absolutely, but for Montreal there is limited value in holding this player other than potentially trading him next year.

If there's no 1st or equivalent prospect offered I'm totally fine with keeping Savard around as a veteran mentor instead of potentially taking a late 2nd even that means we only get a 3rd for him at next year's deadline, but if there's a 1st on the table that's way too much value to pass on for Savard who could very easily be just done and out of the league after this current contract expires.

If players could play they would contact the NHLPA. No way a player 100% would stay home just because the Laffs asked them to. They would 100% contact the NHLPA.

Engels to leave Sportsnet to join the gang at TSN.

Nice work guys!!

We need a deal guys, HuGo come on boys!!
I think it's possible nothing more happen. I'm not 100% convinced Savard is worth a 1st. Maybe but i'm not convinced like i was for Monahan. If he's not worth a 1st i think KH keep him. There's probably very little interest in Anderson for now. Maybe in the summer but for now i doubt it. Dvorak no interest atm for sure. Gallagher is pretty much untradeable for now. Maybe Harris but personally i'd wait another year to give up on him. Armia certainly no interest atm. Kova would maybe be moved for a 2nd but his value is probably more inline with Lyubushkin so i think KH keep him in case he's worth more next year. Allen i think will be traded next summer if he is. We might find a taker for Pearson but the return wont be more than a 4th round pick so no big deal.

I highly doubt the players would do anything if they could play if it was helping their team add for the playoffs. Kucherov didn't. Stone hasn't.

Kucherov played in playoffs and was in his prime. Murray and Muzzin wont play anymore for the Laffs and likely any other team. Klingberg not sure but he's been awful he is either done as a player or injured.

Kiril Marchenko is a healthy scratch tonight apparently. I don't see Montreal making any moves to add roster players at the deadline, but I wouldn't mind adding him.

A few days ago, the excellent Frank Seravalli also revealed some very intriguing information concerning a transaction in progress involving Guentzel and the Canadians

According to Seravalli, CH would be in pole position to act as third party in the transaction, keeping in mind that the club does not wish to use its last contract retention option this season for Jake Allen .

Hughes had mentioned that he'd be open to help broker a deal.

He's probably gonna work for Habs TV - he will never say anything bad about any Hab, like none of them can do wrong...I guess he wants to be friends with them all or something.

Really hope Guentzel goes to the Oilers. I just want to see what that team looks like offensively with him as a big add. Get him and a defenceman to bump out their weak link Ceci, and McDavid easily has his best team ever.

I don't think it's happened with a high profile trade and then being flipped in a separate high profile trade in order to make room for another high profile trade.
Especially when both teams are firmly in the playoffs. Maybe they thought he’d be a fit when in reality they need a top line winger more than another centre. I love the fit for both teams (Guentzel to VAN and Lindholm to BOS)

Actually a Habs deadline trade was kind of similar. The Isles had traded for Vanek like 15 games into the season but went nowhere and then proceeded to trade him to Montreal. Not the same team circumstances, but a high profile player nonetheless.

He was worth a 1st 3 years ago, if he's still worth a 1st now then chances are he's going to be still worth a 1st a year from now. If anything it's more likely that we would want to keep him for our own playoff push next year then his value declines all that much.

Not too mention his value would also still be a 1st in the summer, since he's had a very positive impact on Xhekaj, why not let Xhekaj finish strong by not pulling the rug out from under him and then in the summer decide whether to take the 1st or keep him around longer?
I'm not so sure Savard's value (or any other player's) will be higher in the summer. GM's get stupid at trade deadline. In the summer there will be more options for teams with other teams trying to shed salary and free agency starting in July. Basically, more supply in the summer could drive prices down.

Even though he's not a high profile player, there were also rumors that the Nucks were looking to trade Zadorov who they also acquired from the Flames this year.
