Pretty much 0% chance Habs fall to 3rd. Even 4th is very very slim odds. I wouldn't weigh that consideration very high at all. Habs will probably slip below Ottawa, possibly Arizona. Doubt they slip further.

We're 6 points ahead of Columbus for 4th last so I definitely weigh that.

I mean do we get these last two ties with florida and Tampa without Savard? Maybe not. If we didn't we'd be 4 points up on 4th last and 7 on 3rd last. Still not too late for 4th last. Though with every point earned it's getting more improbable of getting down to 3rd last.

I would assume any contending team would see Savard as a great addition from an asset management perspective.

Let's say they pay 2nd 2nd, for Savard and an extra 4th to someone for cap retention at the the trade deadline. Use him to finish off the season and for a playoff run.

There's nothing stopping them (no NTC) from flipping him in the off-season and recovering their assets. Got to think a veteran RD with a 1.75M cap is easily worth two 2nds at the draft. I don't think his value would decline much between TDL and the off-season when teams have more cap and flexibility with their rosters.

Hutson? What is the top 6 with Hutson?
You want to pair Hutson with quality vet with size. At least to start his career. Both Guhle and Xhekaj benefit from pairing with Savard.

If you trade Savard, on right side Hutson be paired with either Barron, Kovacevic, another rookie, or left shot D playing on his off side.

I'm 100% pro tank but an interesting question to ask is would you prefer having the current Coyotes roster and their current draft rank over our roster and rank? What about Ottawa? Buffalo? I could maybe see taking Chicago because of Bedard, but I'm happier with the overall picture of our team compared against the other bottom ten teams easily.

I'm sure Ottawa will finally become a relevant team again after picking top 6ish and that player not contributing for another 2-3 years. Maybe the Coyotes can stop sucking bumhole after picking a player in the top-6 who won't be a serious contributor for another 2-3 years. Maybe Anaheim can add another 'top' prospect but still be a bottom feeder team for what I feel like is more than 5 years running.

All of that is to say, don't get to worried if Montreal ends up 1 or 2 spots later in the draft because our players are actually playing good compared to others.

It's an interesting point. We'll see if Hutson is even NHL ready at the end of this year.

If we can get a really good young forward or top 15 draft pick, it may be better to trade Matheson and keep Savard to mentor the youth.

never Understood people craping on Armia, he is a reliable player, PK, size, skills and a few time a year he will be the best player in the ice, is contract isn’t great but it definitely it isn’t the worst…
For me anyways, the issue with Armia is his lack of motivation....his want to. Most of the time he's just going through the motions out there. When he's engaged, he's a quality 3rd line player. When he isn't, he doesn't belong in the NHL.

Agreed. There's a point where going scorched earth on veteran presence becomes a problem for the rebuild. Keeping Savard is fine. I'm not convinced another late first is the missing piece when so many defensemen on the team need mentoring.

If you can get a decent asset for Savard or even a better asset for Matheson you trade 1 or both.If worried about veteran presence pick one up in free agency or waiver wire or trade
But who is going to lead the team to a 18th OA finish next year? We need that veteran leadership to do that.

Trading Matheson is probably OK. Replacing Savard would not be that easy. They don't need just any vet. They need a vet willing to play in Quebec and willing and capable of mentoring young players which would likely be hard to find.

Salary. If he was $1M cheaper he’d be loved.
No. He would be liked if he showed up for more than 10 games a year. And of course if he didn't only show up when we don't want him to do anything.

I would gladly take Turcotte and/or Holloway with the habs. I think their age and profile is perfect for the habs timeline.
Turcotte played last 2 games on Kings first line with Byfield and Kopitar and he looked really good doing it.
New LA coach saying how much he impressed with what Turcotte does for the team.
Anybody who thought they can get Turcotte for unsubstantial return can forget about it.

That is all he is worth. Habs have enough glass bodies.

MTL are not retaining 50% on Allen to receive a cap dump of 4M and a 2nd round pick....

Well Allen is basically a 4M cap dump himself at this point - and, within the Habs’ system, he plays a more redundant position (G3) than would Johansen (middle-6 forward) for the exact same term.

Swapping Allen for Johansen would thus be a win by itself, and I think the Habs would actually be lucky to fetch a 2nd round pick for a 1.9M retention ending in 2025.

So, with Elias Pettersson signing a new contract with the Canucks, who's the next player that will get obsessed with here and there is no chance the Habs will acquire? Brady Tkachuk?

Men do I miss the TDL when we where actually looking to add players. Does TDL are now boring, I actually forgot the TDL was this week
Bah even then, it was often boring as well.

Trades are hard ... :sarcasm:

You forgot the TDL was this week because nothing is happening. Things (trades and rumors) should have picked-up since last Wednesday (1.5 weeks before the TDL). We should have had ~2 two trades per day since the 28th. There was 3 total over 4 days.

There isn't even rumors. Last year there was plenty of talks about Meier, Kane, etc. This year, we had more BS trade news (like Markström getting imminently traded, twice, to officially not even being available) then rumors about actually available players.

Ok, but has Friedman ever been right?

No new news…Hughes said those exact words last presser - if Habs get their asking price they would move a G, otherwise they’re fine with finishing the season w 3G and resolving the situation in the offseason
