Great trade for Dallas. In my opinion, the Flames got nervous that nobody else would have the same interest and that they would risk losing value.

Yea you'd expect them to at least get a 1st. Jim Nill doing good work here, not giving up a 1st or any of his top prospects in Stankoven, Bourque or Bicshel.

Nill's been known to be kind of cheap with his trades except for Lundkvist. They probably wanted a better skater than Tanev and someone younger, especially with how badly Suter was exposed in the playoffs. Hanifin would be the perfect fit except he's left handed and they are loaded with LHD as is.

Although many teams could be the broker, the fact that we didn't use it here makes me think we are saving it for Savard just in case.

Tanev only has this year, is far more broken and doesn't have a stanley cup on his resume.
All true, but still, Tanev was seen as a better "player". So all things consider, value should be about the same and thus with this return, I would prefer to keep him. You may get the same next TDL

which is wise. other team will need brokers... so event if MTL isn't using its last retention on one of its own trade, there will be other opportunities.

I don't understand why the Flames make this deal today if that's what they are going to get.
That and the fact they are playing well these days.

And Bourque.

Rather keep Savard than trade him for a 2nd. 3rd and B prospect. He's good player, important leader on team.

You know Oilers, Toronto and what other teams looking for defense help could have beat Dallas offer. They wouldn't so you know not getting much for Savard
They said GM's weren't putting a 1st on the table for Tanev. Calgary GM is an idiot. Tanev is signed for another year like Savard. No need to sell him for nothing. Savard won't go for less than a 1st or equivalnt asset.
