With someone like Zegras, you have to ask yourself why he’d even be available from a team like Anaheim that’s in the same position that we are in now. Young 22 year old center with a few 60 points seasons yet he’s constantly in trade talks even before the down season. The reason he’s available is because he’s soft as butter and if you have serious aspirations of winning, those aren’t the kind of players you have filling out your roster unless you’re Toronto.
It's been explained a ton in this thread.

Anyone have any interest in Knies out of Toronto? He's a having a tough rookie season, but posseses lots of nice tools that could be useful on a team such as ours.

I know it's Toronto and deals betwen rivals are not easily consummated, but they do need D and their draft capital is seriously lacking. We have both in spades.

Could something be worked out? Is it something we should explore?
I'd love knies only concern is injury but he's a solid player. Gritty and skilled

Maybe a young middle six forward who can play soon? A Jake Evans upgrade maybe? Just guessing...
Pelletier is NHL ready and can play pretty much anywhere in a lineup. Coronato is more top-9 but has a higher offensive ceiling. Both are very small players and I don't think either are better than Newhook. Nothing notable up the middle outside of Honzek and he's likely not available.

I'd aim for a pick instead if it was definitely a trade with CGY.

We don't exactly have those kind of players "filling out our roster" and haven't for years. The reason he is available isn't simply "he's soft" at all. Much like us with D, they have a lot of other F prospects coming up, a hard-ass GM, and they just went through a tough salary negotiation that, by a lot of accounts, did not go well.

We can debate all day about why he's available or what type of player he'd be in the playoffs, all hypotheticals, but the fact remains that the guy puts up points, and we haven't had many of his type in many a season.

As a fanbase, we've gotten accustomed to the lunchpail forward, and it's annoying as hell.

Unless Harris can be used in a bigger trade I'd take a 2nd for him from Calgary. Replaces our 2nd that MB gave way.

What the Devils paid to get Timo, you ain't getting him signed for that package, voyons donc!! lol
Timo for something BASED around Andy and Barron means there are some pick or prospects attached to it. We have a shitload of those. Meier is not fitting with Ruff and they've shown interest in Andy in the past.

Just imagine a Timo-Dach-Slaf line and having Meier at Monahan PP position on for next 8 years.

Add Winnipeg first, it's still a deal for me.

Columbus is an odd team with some interesting pieces up front. Way too many young guys and not enough minutes to pass around or quality vets to play them with.

Dmitri Voronkov is a guy I'd look at acquiring. 23, big frame, left-handed, skates well, can play very physical, is versatile enough to play C and W, and has a surprising amount of skill. He could be a perfect middle-6 contributor and complement for our smaller players moving forward. While he's very well regarded by fans, he's seen as having the lowest upside of their young guys and - my speculation - could be available in the right deal. If not Voronkov, then Marchenko, Sillinger, and Chinakov are similarly solid options for a deal.

Based on their board, they could potentially be looking at targeting a physical, D-first defenceman to shake things up on the back end as almost all of their current D and quality prospects are puck moving types. While Struble has unquestionably made a mark in his first season with the Habs, I'm not sure I see him as a future top-4 in MTL given who else we have lined up. However, he could be an awesome fit in CLB.

Any thoughts on a Struble trade to CLB?

Thought they were trading Harris? I wouldn't trade them both

If Montréal wants Zegras.....Anaheim has a lot of good prospect on defense so I guess that we should offer at least a good forward.

Newhook is maybe the one + a first pick (JETS)

Newhook is in his first season with us but he is not untouchable and for a talent like Zegras I would take that risk otherwise I don't think Anaheim will see us as a dance partner

Might be the wildest Playoffs in NHL history wherein every team enters with at least 1 of their 2 starting goaltenders injured
2022 playoffs, something like 26 different goalies had played 1 playoffs games after 3 games into the first round. Goalies injuries are on the rise since the last few equipment and offside rules change.

Indeed it is, that's why I'm not concerned about his "drop of" that much. There's a very useful NHL player in there, with room for growth.

I'm not too worried about it either. Just a note that expectations for rookies are extremely high for all fan bases, and yet except for the really rare few (McDavid, Bedard) majority will have struggles their first couple of years before settling in & breaking out.

I could bet you X goes in a trade before Stuble.
