Wonder if Philly will be selling or trying to get a golie. I'd love to pull off an Allen+ for Cates trade.

Allen isn’t really much of an improvement over Petersen. Don’t see Philly being all that interested.

I don't think there's any way we're not using excess capital and picks for a trade. More likely in the off-season. There's no way a guy drafted 26th overall is going to come to help the team when Cole/Nick/Dach are in their prime unless we get lucky and another COVID comes and nobody can scout Wyatt Johnston again.

Nobody else from 2021 onwards is playing in the NHL except Johnston. Even in 2020 Chinakov is probably the best guy drafted after 20 but he was an overager. Even 2019 guys drafted that late are still clawing to get into the league. From 2018 Veleno is just taking a real full time top nine role now five years later.

I would expect some struggling 2019-2021 prospects, or decent players on teams trying to tank, ala Dach, to be targeted.

For lower/medium cost guys, potentially Holloway, Lundell, Bourque, Cuylle, Kakko, Kaliyev, Holtz

Higher cost Zegras, Lafreniere, Nikishin if he refuses to sign in a dump like Raleigh, or Zary. Turcotte outside chance as he's starting to put it together a little and LA need cheap players badly.

Probably Zegras is the only "elite skill" guy available. I would bet on Turcotte or Zegras as the target though, as both can play center or wing and have experience playing with Cole. Allowing Dach/Slaf/Newhook or someone better to complete the second line. Or even doing Cole/Dach/one of the US guys and Slaf-Nick-Newhook as the second line.

I wonder if Vancouver would have any interest in bringing Tanner Pearson back or I could see him go to Tampa Bay.
Anthony Duclair back in Florida?

Nah, we need centers not more wingers.

If Newhook isn't back by the 1st game after All Star break, our centers are probably Suzuki, Evans, Stephens & Condotta. Lol
SO.... what do you do if Nick Suzuki get injure in the all star game? Can we refuse to play and call forfeit?:laugh:

Very happy to have the Monahan trade made and out of the way. Extremely shrewd asset management on the part of Hughes who maxed out his value on both ends, and essentially waved the white flag on the remnants of the season at the perfect time.

The next major move is potentially sending David Savard to a contender for another first round pick/solid prospect and still have the ability to retain salary to maximize the return. I could see a potential deal with Edmonton where the Habs would send Savard at 50% retained to take back Holloway (at least the framework of a potential deal).

I fully expect one or all of the following players to be shipped out on or before the deadline:

David Savard
Jake Allen
Joel Armia
Justin Barron

Cayden Lindstrom is now the target in the upcoming draft. We’re not bad enough to get to Celebrini, and to be honest I prefer Lindstrom’s skill set for our club.

A 6’4 Center that can really fly, score, dominate physically, and a left handed shot is exactly what we need. While Suzuki is an amazing playmaker that can score, Lindstrom is more of a natural goal scorer that can pass. Suzuki is smooth while Lindstrom is straight through you fast/mean.

Start off 2024 with a potential lineup of:

Caufield - Suzuki - Slafkovsky
Roy - Dach - Newhook
Holloway - Lindstrom - Anderson
Pezzetta - Evans - Gallagher

Matheson - Guhle
Struble - _____
Xhekaj - Kovacevic

A lot of playoff team could use a guy like Pearson on the 4th line the issue is that most aren't able to fit him and even at 50% he worth like a 5th at best, so I don't see him being moved.

It leave us with Savard, Harris and Allen that might move but beside Savard not much interresse, I think that we might move Savard and also 3rd team in a trade since it is probably the most valuable way to used that last retentions spot and that will be it for this year...

We should also be trying to help Colorado or Dallas to make sure Winnipeg doesn't win the division and doesn't make it past the first round to improve our pick.

Caufield was voted most overrated by the same poll....just saying.
Interesting eh..........................I didn't say I agreed with the player poll, just putting it out there............hockey players tend to dislike players like Zegras because he is a bit of a hot dog......no doubt he is offensively talented for sure.

I do know, we need to use some Draft Capital to make another deal for a high end offensive style of player, or two.....
