That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard

Also side note:
I don't understand the NYR logic:

They don't want to trade big assets because their forward core is older and will need some youth injection. But at the same time, they only have a cup window because of that older forward core.

It's sounds like MB thinking where you just end up in no man's land.
Imagine MB had any foresight in our window with Price, PK, etc. .

The 1st rounders we so desperately could not part with were:
Leblanc
Tinordi
Beaulieu
Galchenyuk
McCarron
Scherbak
Juulsen

That is 7 straight years of "keeping" our 1st rounders.. surely, someone in the organization could have recognized that simply trading the picks for immediate help in the few years we were on top would have been way more valuable - especially since we put 0 value into prospect development.

Every successful organization should have an ageing core, followed by a budding core in the AHL. At any point on the road to SC, gms should absolutely be willing to trade picks (outside top 10).

Rags, can easily send Kakko (not working with the youth core) and this years first for Money and a cap dump.

It's a win-win for both organizations.

Why are the Rangers getting a cap dump from the Habs?

In fairness, we don’t know how much Leblanc, Tinordi & Beaulieu were devalued post draft

Friedman on 32 thoughts said that he thinks the Habs are going to trade Monahan. Going by his track record regarding Habs things, that probably means Monahan won't be traded.:sarcasm:

I assume you mean the Rangers would be sending a cap dump to Montreal, because there's no way anyone would do the alternative.

I'm out on re-signing Monahan.

Gallagher is bad enough. We can't give term to guys who are entering their 30s with a lengthy injury history.
Maybe the stars will align and he'll sign with us for another 1-year deal. Not a bad idea to stick with the rebuilding team that gives you every opportunity to show the rest of the league the injuries aren't a concern and you've still got top-6 abilities.

If he survives this season, then he's only got one recent healthy season where his scoring is back up and I don't know if contenders will be interested in giving him multiple years. Easier to get your ducks in a row on your roster then trade for a Monahan type at %50 at the TDL.

We need to trade Monahan. It gonna weaken our roster for the last stretch of the season, then, gonna have a better pick. + the return of Monahan. There is no doubt. We need to trade him

Savard to the Lightning makes a lot of sense. He’s been there before and won a cup, although during a very brief tenure.

I may be crazy, but I’d target Tanner Jeannot as a return.

I know Jeannot is hurt currently, and has been disappointing in his run with the Bolts, but I think there is a lot of potential for return to the form he showed with the Preds in his rookie year. He’s still only 26. I think he’s the kind of guy who would play better in a Canadian city.

I’d love to have him doing the dirty work on a line with Suzuki/Caufield. He’d be able to be the physical presence and board man those two need, and provide some much needed toughness up front.

I don’t know what we’d add to Savard to acquire Jeannot, but I know it would be significantly less if we retained on his deal at 50 percent so the Bolts could have him for an extra year cheap.

2024 lineup:

Jeannot - Suzuki - Caufield
Newhook - Dach - Slafkovsky
Roy - Beck - Anderson
Pezzetta - Dvorak - Gallagher

Matheson - Guhle
Struble - Barron
Xhekaj - Kovacevic

Habs can offer term if the salary isn't too high. If Monahan really wants to win a Cup he could sign with the Habs for 1 year and stay if Habs are contending for a playoff spot or be moved again if they aren't,

I don't think he's gonna forego his best opportunity to get term and salary to come back on a one year deal.

Someone will give him term, it shouldn't be us.

It's gonna happen, we're just playing hardball like we should, given his cheap salary relative to his performance.

I'm guessing Jets 1st + B- prospect. NYR will target the big fish as usual (Lindholm), and many of the top teams aren't sure enough to pony up for (good) rentals. So many bubble teams could flip one way or the other, I'm thinking we get a busier deadline than last couple years with the early blockbusters.

Habs can afford salary/cap more than term in Monahan's injury riddled case. Assuming the plan isn't to trade him again.

This year, many teams could win the stanley cup. There is Boston, Vegas, but the rest is open and teams I suppose many teams will try to improve.

What's 'term' going to look like in Monahan's case? 3 years? Doesn't seem like the market is all that hot on him.
