With Dach & Dvorak out for the season, I think the only chance Monahan gets moved is if the return is outlandish and includes a middle 6 roster player the other team wants to offload that is either UFA or has 1 more year left at most...
Who cares about C? We can just end the season with some AHL guy or by taking on a cap dump who happens to play C. We dont want to win game this year.

Exactly. Or may i suggest calling Briere over Morgan Frost? Healthy scratched again, Torts hates him. Scored 19 goals 46 pts last year, would have been 2nd on Habs. Only 24. Would not cost much. Clearly better than Dvorak.

I like the idea of dealing Monahan to Winnipeg, he’s ultra coachable/adaptable and gives them exactly what they’re looking for, with little to no cap hit to make more moves.

I don’t like Lambert as the target, I’ve never really been impressed with his game and I don’t see a lot of improvement over the years in his development.

I’d look to target Colby Barlow as the main piece in a return. I think he’d be a solid addition as a shoot first ask questions later winger. Good size, willing to battle and while he won’t drive the line, he will be an excellent complement to a creative center. And he’s a pure finisher which is what we need.

I’d offer:

To Winnipeg: Sean Monahan

To Montreal: Colby Barlow, Montreal’s previously acquired 2024 2nd round pick.
Barlow was 18th overall in last draft. There is no way they trade him for Monahan, not even adding another 2rd.
Getting late 1st would be a success, so we are talking about 20+.

If we're way out of the playoffs, I could see Hughes still moving Monahan, unless he's in their future plans.

With Monahan, Dach, and Dvo out, that would be quite a move for the tank.

I get the desire for that...

I just don't think that Hughes & co. will approach it from that lens. If they were committed to a scorched earth tank, we'd have seen different decisions last summer and this season.

I don't think they will be gutting the injury filled roster any further unless the return is of the "can't say no" variety and/or decent NHL caliber replacement is coming back.

Not sure we'll be out of the playoffs by the deadline, but even if, I'm not convinced Hughes will be sending Suzuki, CC, Guhle & co. the message that this season is done by gutting the roster of NHL talent. Doesn't match what they've done or said.

If there's a deal that is too good to say no, that's a much different "sell" internally than simply moving assets for the sake of it.

We'll see...

Unless you mean mathematically out (and this will take a while), its « when », not « if ». 5 teams to catch just for WC2. And we can forget about the deal breaker RW.

Schedule in March and April is deadly.

Dvo hurt does not help the tank.

It's incredible how there are like legit no trades that happen in this league anymore.
Too many teams cap strapped themselves with big contracts thinking this is the NBA with too many cheap GMs who don't want to pay to improve their rosters unless they can get it at a bargain.

The end result is that only players who need to be moved are traded (refuse to extend, next contract can't be fit on the cap, asked to be traded, caused trouble, etc).

all 3 are still young and will be here for awhile they know this team is not a playoffs team specially with all of our injuries if we get good offer for Monahan you take it and regroup next year

would be a big mistake to keep Monahan specially re-sign him his body is done he didnt get injured yet but you can clearly see he slowed down and we're only mid season

I still want Shane Pinto. Huge risk to get a player with a gambling problem though.
What gambling problem? For all i know all he did was place bets which is not allowed. I bet on NFL most Sundays, a few bucks. Thats not having a gambling problem.

Nothing was released about some form of gambling addiction.

and to your point yes i would look to trade for him

I think he would be a good addition but at what cost.?

I didn't mean mathematically. But sometimes a team goes on a run. Clearly I don't see us going on a run. But I don't see Hughes making trades now. I see him giving the players the opportunity to try to go on a run, and then dealing at the deadline if (i.e. when) we haven't gone on such a run. Prices will be higher then anyways.

I think if we're way out of it by the TDL he may tell the players it's better for their long term aspirations of making the playoffs. If the playoffs aren't realistically in reach, I think the players would understand.

Our roster has been badly affected by injuries. The message can be we'll build up for next year when Dach and Newhook are back, and all the young players have one more year of experience.
