If the Habs are on the hunt for a wildspot card, I wonder if they would consider trading for Hellebuyck who's going to hit UFA, maybe extending him. A 1A and 1B duo with Montembeault? Would be nice to give the team leaders something to work with, I think they're getting antsy.

1) we'll be nowhere near a wildcard spot
2) Hellebuyck is American and wants to go to a contender, zero chance he signs in Montreal and less than zero chance HuGo would want him

IF Habs get Helle, it won't be a 1A, 1B situation. It'd be a 1A, 2C situation.

Yeah I guess. Helle would actually make a bigger difference than Dubois on the Habs. I wonder how much he's asking for. Are we looking into Price territory? It would be a huge step forward to land such a star. But maybe during the season you rest him a little, that's why I said Montembeault as 2B.

I was walking a Ave des Pins yesterday near the McGill gym on the facade of which it is inscrisbed in capital letters : "Time dims not the achivements of the brave but worth shines steadfast even from the grave". On the frontdoor, there were plenty of gold wearing Americans. Caufield is American. Maybe Helle buys into the Habs and thinks they're for real now and in the future, stranger things have happened, a Harvard psychology teacher on the JBP show even said she once saw a horse eat a hotdog.

If the Habs are anywhere in the realistic hunt for a wild cart spot (meaning, in, or 1-2 points out at TDL, not 10 points), that means Montembault is a having a season on par with Hellebuyck's very best, hence, why the actual f*** rent Hellebuyck?

To actually sign him and solve a big piece of the problem. Also if the Habs are in the wildcard it doesn't necessarily mean Montembeault is an allstar.

What will Hellebuyck’s next contract look like. He’ll be 31 when it starts and I would be surprised if he wasn’t looking for a 6-7 year contract.

I would and did because that is exactly what it was. #1 Dmen don't rush up the ice even half the number of times Matheson did and many of those forays were ill advised. Call it creativity if you want but it is definitely not the norm. No way does he play that way with everything still to play for No way No how.

I think your spinning it a bit. Skilled players need to be allowed to be creative in order to do what they do best and MSL is allowing them too but also asking them to be defensively aware. Like if you are the last man back kind of thing. It's a little deep in context and I only captured a fraction of it.

Let me play the spin game. There is no way MSL is going to coach like Therrien and Julien... which is what you are trying to say. ;)

Bad timing to get Hellebuyck. By the time Suzuki is 27/28 and Reinbacher is 21/22, Hellebuyck is 33/34 right?

No way I make a move like this during transition years. Keep drafting and development going and in 3 or 4 years time, we will know our real holes. The only thing Hellebuyck does for us is bump us up faster but we end up playoff pretenders. Either just missing or a 1st round exit.

The Leafs should be in on Hellebuyck IMO. Figure out the cap to make it happen.

No it isn't. Accountability is. You do realize there is a world of difference playing games that are meaningless to those at the beginning of a new season. I'm simply saying I expect Matheson to be far more selective in his forays. His getting caught up ice hurt us on more than one occasion last season.

I stand by what I said. There will be accountability and that has already taken place in some areas. MSL is not dumb but he's also not going to coach like Therrien and Julien either. I think Matheson knows how to balance the creativity and responsibility and he showed that in the 2nd half last season.

Matheson's giveaways/60 was not that much different than Petry.

Not something to carry forward saying the same things at this stage.

I don’t think they will. Just commenting on a post. I think the days of super high priced goalies ended with Bobrovsky. Just not worth the cap when you look at the past cup winning goalies. Unless it’s a generational talent, game changer like Hasek, Brodeur etc. I don’t see GMs making their goalies the top paid players on the team. Center and RD will dominate cap space IMO.

Surprised that no one started a thread for a trade about K.Letang because he was skating with the team today.

Could Seth jones be a fit in MTL at 8mil ?
28 years old RD

Chi : Jones (1.5mil retained) + Colton Dach
for
MTL : Barron + Harris + Farrell + 2nd pick (avs) + Primeau + Armia

Barron and Harris are clearly making the team , propably top 4 for both.

He wants to be captain in Chicago and has a NMC, so it dies there

The Montreal Canadiens have just completed a trade with the Ottawa Senators, acquiring the rights to forward Jakov Novak in exchange for future considerations.
