What is this obsession with offer sheets? I thought we were done being a clown organization?
I think it’s fair to say we won’t be offersheeting for a long while after what happened with Kohktaniemi where we put a target on our back with Aho for no reason. But OS are fun in fantasy proposals.

Who between Panarin or Kreider is he going to replace to get those points?
Exactly. And that is why Habs should be interested if he was available. Rangers should move Panarin. He does not do well in the playoffs. Since they won't they should move Lafreniere.

The power play will improve only when the roster has a Markov level distributor and a legit shooting threat paired up with him. Until then it is predictable and easy to shut down. We have players in the pipeline with that potential but none here yet.
Dach and Suzuki both distribute the puck very well. There is no reason the PP can't be much better when the weak links are removed. Are you suggesting we can't improve until Lane Hutson arrives? That is a terrible attitude to take IMO. Prime Markov always had a top tier shooter Souray/Streit and to some extent Subban. We don't have that one timer. Caufield is not nearly as dangerous when he's been at the point. Our best PP had Dach and Monahan down low Suzuki and Caufield on either half wall and Matheson at the top of the diamond. Suzuki and Caufield moving high to low to create lanes.

16.1% last year (ranked 29th). Panthers were 10th with 22.8% and Hurricanes were 20th with 19.8%.

* PP was 13.7% for 21/22.
* PP was 19.2% for 20/21 (56 games)
* PP was 17.7% for 19/20

I think 18%-20% is reachable with this group. The boys need to stay healthy and MSL can't have Gallagher, Dvorak, Hoffman, Armia, Drouin, Dadonov as big parts. Monahan can be because he plays the center of the ice well and can actually win a puck battle if there is a scrum.

Our PP weapons or staples should be Suzuki, Dach, Caufield, Matheson, Guhle with guys like Monahan, Anderson, Slaf, RHP, Barron mixed in. Hoffman can play 2nd unit if he is still with us. But Gallagher, Armia, Dvorak should not get much

As long as you offer nothing to force the opposition from playing ,4 men low, your shooters don't have any time or space, and you lose the retrieval battles. PP can't succeed f teams cotinue to ignore the player on the point and defend like it is 4 on 4. You want an odd man matchup down low to set up your shooters and are not getting it.

Matheson will not be ignored in the middle his best shots on net came from passes low to high and he can drift in to become a bumper. The Umbrella wheels to either side and as I mentioned both Suzuki and Caufield also move north south creating lanes. The movement is key.

bring on the Laff to MTL , you all know this will be the new topic

Why not. He is a former #1 OA and if the cost to acquire is something we can afford (Dach type trade), why not talk about it? Are we afraid because if we talk about it, it won't happen and we are fools for talking about it?

It's tricky. You could look like a genius for buying low where he breaks out afterwards or you could look like a dud (like the Drouin trade). Definitely a risk/reward debate.

Rangers won't let go of him that easily. Cap issues yes but they can go with a 21 man roster and fit him in. If we were in their shoes, we would hold onto hope and I suspect they do as well. Offer sheet would have better probability than a trade IMO. If you talk trade with them, they start talking about Slaf and Guhle and then we avoid the conversation. Just like with Dubois... The min Dach is mentioned, we steer clear. I talked about Dubois a lot and it's fine. It didn't happen. I never agreed with Friedman's 95% statement. I was more like 60-80%. Turns out the 20-40% became true. I don't regret talking about it though.

I guess we can let them drown with him for one more season and go from there. The more it lingers on, with meh production, the worse his value is. Will it be a Yakupov situation? Doubt it but possible.

its a ok topic, but like PLD it gets so out of hand... many almost think it is a real thing
but sure, if they could get him with not costing to much , try it

It's hockey bud. We like to talk about a lot of things and our fan herd has a lot of people in it. The issue is with the gullible ones talking with certainty and others trying to nit pick in the trenches.

If you rather talk about high probability, this is not the correct thread to be in.

I’ll never understand the fixation on Lafreniere. A lot of the same people that want him are the guys that had to have Dubois at any cost. It’s driven by the last name. Laf is possibly interesting once the value associated with his draft status dwindles down. Right now he’s just a guy who developed physically faster then others who could get away with things in juniors that he can’t at the pro level.

Laf makes sense age wise if HuGo think they can get some combo of a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, line LW out of Slafkovsky, Newhook, and Lafreniere.

It's that and that he was a former 1st overall.. but I'd challenge someone to tell me what Lafreniere can do on the ice at the NHL level that speaks to some unrealized potential.

I'm underwhelmed every time I watch him, the skating isn't good enough and the rest of his skill set just looks very pedestrian compared to elite players in the NHL. The IQ isn't showing to be all that high which is what I thought would be his calling card. Looks like the loss of extra time has really hurt him.

To answer your question, Marc forgot his clown shoes under the desk in the office, and Kent tried them on for size. His wife liked them on him. Kinda turned her on.

yup, I agree.. just sayin though take a run at him

Anyone hear anything about Cooley signing his ELC so he can be dealt?
nope, they need to fill that 5000 seat arena . lol

Like Dach, he's a player with size who has not been placed in a position to succeed.

He's 6'1 not 6'4 (and Dach was 5'9 before hitting that massive growth spurt as a teenager in the WHL) and Lafreniere has had plenty of deployment behind two legitimate top lines to exploit lesser opposition and hasn't progressed at all despite being very very healthy.

There's nothing in his skill set that stands out as a NHLer.

He has never played on a top line. He has been on the 3rd line with next to no pp time. Kakko has played on a scoring line because he is a right wing.

That's what I said, he's been behind two top lines and can exploit weaker opposition with favorable deployment and he's not progressed.

Just name one thing he has in his skill set at the NHL level that speaks to untapped potential.

His IQ isn't an asset in the NHL anymore. His skating hasn't improved and holds him back. His shot isn't lethal. His playmaking has been pedestrian.

He's coasting along on people wanting him for what he was projected to be and not on a discernible skill or quality that even shows up in small bursts
