What a great discount Dubois would do us to accept 8.75m instead of 9.5m. Is letting 750k of the table. What a great guy that wants to play the sport over the money.I find it kind of hilarious that you can't make any leeway for common sense and thus find it kind of hilarious.
What Dubois is saying I that he is willing to make relative concessions in salary demands if it will lead to building a better team and increasing the odds of winning a Cup -- were not talking about Kariya who went to COL for one year at 1.2M in the hopes of winning a Cup.
I.e. Dubois accepts 8.75M for 8 years instead of demanding 9.5M and not signing if he doesn't get the whole thing. The front loaded nature of a contract and the bonus structure possible would make this more possible and attractive as the NET remaining will come closer to 9.5M on a regular contract structure by the end of the deal.
That's where money isn't the end all of agreeing to a contract.
MON has the advantage of signing Dubois as the eldest of the young core and, if they can't win a Cup in 6 years, by the time he is 30, they could help facilitate a trade to a team that is contending for a Cup. It's a win-win as Montreal would then give Dubois' salary to a replacement player turning 24, 25 or 26, maybe the player we draft with our own pick in 2023?
In the meantime, Dubois tries to win with his home town team...
It's likewe talking about the same discount Tavares took for Toronto which was a lie lol.
