Somewhere on earth in a hospital
I find it kind of hilarious that you can't make any leeway for common sense and thus find it kind of hilarious.

What Dubois is saying I that he is willing to make relative concessions in salary demands if it will lead to building a better team and increasing the odds of winning a Cup -- were not talking about Kariya who went to COL for one year at 1.2M in the hopes of winning a Cup.

I.e. Dubois accepts 8.75M for 8 years instead of demanding 9.5M and not signing if he doesn't get the whole thing. The front loaded nature of a contract and the bonus structure possible would make this more possible and attractive as the NET remaining will come closer to 9.5M on a regular contract structure by the end of the deal.

That's where money isn't the end all of agreeing to a contract.

MON has the advantage of signing Dubois as the eldest of the young core and, if they can't win a Cup in 6 years, by the time he is 30, they could help facilitate a trade to a team that is contending for a Cup. It's a win-win as Montreal would then give Dubois' salary to a replacement player turning 24, 25 or 26, maybe the player we draft with our own pick in 2023?

In the meantime, Dubois tries to win with his home town team...
What a great discount Dubois would do us to accept 8.75m instead of 9.5m. Is letting 750k of the table. What a great guy that wants to play the sport over the money.

It's likewe talking about the same discount Tavares took for Toronto which was a lie lol.

Does an elderly Pacioretty fit on this roster at LW?

Only on a very short, very team friendly deal... Doubt he'd have interest, Id imagine he'd rather sign with a contender if he's going to sign a discounted deal.

Tatar seems like the more likely fit to the Berkshire comment. Also only of interest if on a short, team friendly deal... But I'd be ok with Tuna back on a 1-2 yr deal at 2.5M per or less.

According to Marinaro, the Jets have had scouts at a lot of London Knights games recently and said it could be because they're scouting Mailloux incase they want him in a PLD trade.

Interesting point made on AC about how strict and firm Marty’s reaction was toward Drouin.

Waite who was on the panel tonight claimed that for Marty to react like that, Drouin must have been late repeatedly. The usual coaching reaction for a rare lateness is a fine. This went way beyond that, it sounded personal, the straw that broke the camel’s back.

Edit: I posted this in the wrong thread, my apologies. I’ll leave it here nonetheless.

It would have to be a very team friendly deal. I'd rather look elsewhere
It's not Lehky so yeah we need to move on from the past.

Absolutely he's constantly had his back from day one and believes TEAM comes first in everything he preaches. "Takes care of the team" is his favorite mantra.

So Logan with a goal and two assists tonight as per @Tyson it's a slam dunk. :sarcasm:
oof moving him could hurt. That's another young D that might come back to haunt us.
I wonder if they're insisting on Mailloux or Hutson.
Harris doesn't move the needle for them.
If it's like Mailloux and Fla's pick, there better be a contract attached.

I can't see us over-paying given what other players in the same boat have fetched.

I think it would be a huge mistake to trade Mailloux. The guys a stud already. Guys like him are rare. Why the great hurry to get Dubois anyway. If we are really gonna rebuild properly why get him now? If we get him the year after it would be perfect and if not we're still gonna have an exciting team in the near future anyway. Sounds kinda like the Toronto Tavares signing. That was their kiss of death. Keep our high picks and load up with talent, we the fans deserve it Please stay the course!!

I know they're not going to. Hughes is gonna trade mailloux or baron plus floridas pick, I can feel it. Then it's back to teams that are not good enough and not bad enough. And history just repeats itself........

Whatever we do for Dubois, it’s going to hurt.

It's a bit scary everyone wants to throw assets at him. The last player we gave a contract to sight unseen just missed a team meeting.

Not if we stay the course.

Not if we stay the course.
Meaning, wait til he becomes a UFA?

I’m liking the assets Hughes is amassing. I’d like our coaching staff to work with them more closely and for a significant time frame before deciding whether they should be included in a trade.

Seriously, what bearing does that have to do with anything? Don't sign him because he's local and all locals end up like Drouin?

Not neccessarily. But don't budge on what your initial take is. It's obvious they've had serious discussions and my guess is a former agent like Hughes understands he had the upper hand.

Hughes I hope doesn't trade Mailloux until he truly sees what he has. The kid has played what amounts to ONE OHL season. He is still raw. The potential is too high to give up on.

No way, Mailloux and Hutson are untouchables. Florida's 1st + Harris or we wait for a chance to get him for free.
