Here's my hopes at the Trade Deadline:
* Dadonov (50% Retention) = 2.5M for a 2nd
* Byron (50% Retention) = 1.7M for a 3rd
* Allen = 2.875M for a 3rd
* Drouin (50% Retention) = 2.75M for a 2nd
I can see Allen sticking around for another year or two as a stopgap considering Primeau is a big question mark and Price’s health is such an uncertainty. I think they value that more then just an average draft pick. I also don’t think deadline buyers will see a lot of value in Drouin unless he picks it up a lot. He has to be playing well enough to have a spot in a playoff teams top 6 or he’s essentially useless. The other ones I think you’re in the ballpark with.

Someone mention Shattenkirk earlier and this is a name that would really make sense imo. Runs the first PP instead of Wideman and fit well next to Guhle or Eddy. He's the exact profile Hugos is looking for with the expiring contract.

The situation in net is pretty messy with Price's health being so uncertain. Crease might get busy if he's back and Monty around still. We could always bring the Hamburglar back if they manage to flip Allen

Drouin is a wildcard. He only played two games with MSL last season. I think he gets a decent return if he can match his traditional 40-50 point pace production:
2016-17 = 0.73 / game
2017-18 = 0.69 / game
2018-19 = 0.65 / game
2019-20 = 0.56 / game
2020-21 = 0.52 / game
2021-22 = 0.59 / game
Playoffs (2016 & 2020) = 0.78 / game

Allen should get a good return, given all the goalie wear and tear heading into the playoffs and the paucity in the goalie market last season, which may have some GMs itching to act pre-emptively.

I don’t like to bet against Hughes doing the opposite of what he insists he won’t do but what do I know.

What kind of value do you anticipate for Dadonov, assuming a return to his usual form?
2nd round pick. Few teams will be willing to trade a 2023 1st round pick and, definitely, not for Dadonov. Maybe for the Power Horse?

I'd hope for a 2nd in return of Allen, personally, and he might well be retained 50% FOR THAT TO HAPPEN.

I don't think Byron ages well this season and he'll likely retire at the end of it.

I don't expect anything in return of Byron, but three 2nd rounders sounds correct for Dadonov, Allen and Drouin, with salary retention.

I’m not confident either that a 1st can be had this season for any of these guys, except Anderson.

However, based on what Hughes has been saying, it’s going to take a lot to pry Anderson.

I'm curious about Anderson this year because he could be part of a bruising line with Slafkovsky on LW. Dach or Dvorak as their centreman and you have a pretty tenacious (if Dvorak) or gigantic (if Dach) line right there. They'll put up like 67 points between the three of them but they'll intimidate the crap out of opponents lol

Anderson has apparently had quite the stringent off season training regimen and will start the season at a lower playing weight. He’ll have more talent to work alongside with this season — hopefully that means better offensive output as well as bruising, as you mentioned.

If MSL can get him to un-learn what all his coaches have imprinted ("Ur big so smash down the wing and cut inside-- no one can stop you!") and he plays with his head up a bit more I think he can surprise a lot of people.

Changing style of play may provide a bump in production, as will avoiding injury, but honestly at his age, the lack of hockey IQ and passing ability are things that will prevent him from providing more than he has shown.

Might have been me. He has a NTC and I expect we would be on it, however - with Klingberg now Shattenkirk will get less minutes, hopefully he would see the value in coming to MTL and playing more.

If we could move Armia for Shattenkirk, it would be a good cap shedding move and we get a player we can flip at TDL.

It's up to MSL to drive their value up tis season....he did that pretty well last year with Chiarot, Lehkonen and Kulak. As for the return, I expect a whole lot more from Allen and add a 50% retention on him too.

If Hughes wants to get value more than quantity, if the opportunity presents itself, a package could net him a better return like Dadonov + Allen at 50% for example. if both plays well this year, it might be an option.

Habs need more 2nd round picks. Theirs will likely be close to a low 1st round pick. Can't trade that. If they can get a mid 2nd round pick or 2 they might be able to move a mid 2nd and say a Dadonov for a low 1st.

Can only retain on 3 contracts per year

I think at this point you only move Anderson if the return is great. He fits what HuGo is building, and I think his contract looks good as the cap rises.

Just makes you an enlightened fan of the game. Screw everything about that franchise.

Hope he’d say that. Be pretty bad if he thought tanking was a good idea when he’s getting $10M this year. Lol
He didn't have to say anything on the subject. It's just a fact that players want to win and not tank like some seem to propose on here.
