My thoughts from the trade thread:

If we go off of the HF value for Spurgeon, I don't like the Detroit deal; even with a third involved. Spurgeon's top value here has been 16 OA.

Value of 16 OA + 20 OA

For

Pulkkinen + 19 OA

------

Obviously HF value and real life value likely aren't the same, but for a 25 y/o 2nd pairing PMD that can play on the PP and PK, and still has RFA status, I would think the 19 OA + prospect would be the more fair deal from the Wild's side. I could understand Detroit not wanting to move that kind package for him though.

Pulkinnen is not worth Spurgeon. Hell I've seen Detroit fans on the main board say they'd send him along with a first for just Spurgeon.

This place sometimes. Pulkinen is no worth close to Spurgeon? a 23+ minute a night defensemen, on one of the leagues best defensive teams.

Pulkkinen has grand total of 8 points into his NHL career. There should definitely be something coming along him besides the rise of one draft position.

For what it's worth, Eklund just reported that Mike Reilly is down to Chicago and Minnesota and will be making his decision "sooner rather than later".

Wherever he lands, I just don't want it to be Chicago.

Until the Wild win the cup, today might be my favorite day when it comes to hockey.

I would imagine it would be though. The only way he would sign in Minnesota is if he just wants to wear the sweater of the hometeam he has essentially grew up with.

Just reality talking right now in my head. You go to Chicago you have about a 95% chance you are going to be playing in Chicago and not Rockford. You will be mentored by a 2-time Norris winner/2-time Olympic gold medalist/1-CS award winner/3-time Stanley Cup Champion. You would be on a team that while depleted at Defense would still have a very rock solid forward core and no real reason to be concerned about goaltending either.

And then the whole thing about just being that young: you are in Chicago where there is actually a ton of stuff to do. You would be treated like a God because you play for the Blackhawks everywhere you went and I'm pretty sure him and their Finnish kid that said the women are always horny would be good roommates lol.

If he comes here, it is because he wants to stay in Minnesota. There is really no reason other than that to do it. The Wild are backlogged on the blueline where at least 5 of the 6 spots are already filled, 4 if they traded Spurgeon. You have an aging vet I'm sure they would sign dirt cheap that can play 75% of the season no problem and is a great mentor. You have another kid in Iowa that was already getting promised professional ice time when he was ready and why he signed here instead of many other teams. You have another kid that is up and coming and actually has some size to him as well.

If you are Rielly where are you wanting to go?

You're in for a disappointment.

Expensive, in both assets and $'s.

What is their cap situation though? Honestly never even looked, just know there is probably no chance they resign him with their signings already.

Someone's going to overpay him and be very disappointed when he fails to surpass his career high of 64 points. Predicting he has a Koivu-esque career.

I can see him having that Koivu type career, only without the stupid penalties and this team certainly could use a 64 point centerman right now. Koivu had 48 points this last season and is 5 years removed from a 60 point season. Granlund may smell that number eventually, but who knows.

Oh, he's definitely getting traded; that's why the Soderberg trade went down. But he's not getting dealt for peanuts either.

You mention being mentored by a top defenseman in Chicago, but no mention of it for Minnesota. He probably has more in common, offensively, with Duncan Keith when compared to Ryan Suter, but both are extremely well though out, top pairing, LDs.

You mention that five of our six spots are filled, the one that currently isn't filled just happens to be a LD spot, and while we can still sign Leopold for dirt cheap, I have no problem seeing him accepting a 6/7 defensemen role and continuing to mentor the young kids.

While not Chicago, St. Paul/Minneapolis is a pretty good area itself.

-----

All of that being said, I've said in nearly every Mike Reilly conversation that I expect him to sign with Chicago. I think Reilly's dad being a minority owner of the team actually hurts us, rather than helps us. I just think that your post sold what the Wild can offer a little bit short. While Chicago has a few more open D-spots, great success over the last decade, and a great city to offer they're also not going to guarantee him any more than the Wild and that's a chance to earn NHL time this year. No one is guaranteeing him an opening day roster spot.

So, I'm watching NHL Network right now (Hockey Central @ Noon Radio Show) and they were discussion teams that could make potential big moves involving players. The team mentioned was the Carolina Hurricanes and one of the players was Jeff Skinner. Jeff Marek said that they could be looking to ship him out west, and mentioned Minnesota as a landing spot.

Came as a shock to me. What would that trade look like? Salary would have to go back to Carolina.

Pominville would have to go in any circumstance but we could be buying low and flipping Poms and our 2nd for him. Skinner has low value due to injury history and contract.

Edit- My offer was terrible value for the Canes. It'd be more like Poms, Tuch and our 2nd

What is this sudden urge to trade Spurgeon to everywhere? How about we just keep our stud defenceman?

I don't see it. He plays LW where we're already very strong, and they are looking for LD's which pretty much means Scandella is the only option. I'd be very disappointed if we made that deal.

^^ that's what I thought too. At best we would be taking another left handed and playing him on his off wing.

With Parise and Vanek entrenched, with Zucker/Haula as well. Skinner doesn't seem like a fit.

Despite handedness, I'd love to have Skinner. Kid's unbelievably skilled and creative offensively. We already know a couple trade pieces we've been dangling are Pominville and Spurgeon. Neither really make sense for Carolina unless we're including picks/prospects.

Skinner is very welcome and he shouldn't cost that much. He hasn't had a season like his debut (or was it his 2nd season) ever since. He hasn't had a major issue with injuries either.

Him and Granlund together could be a magical pairing. Either Poms or Vanek (preferably Vanek) would have to be included one way or another though. For CAR to eat one of those two contracts, they're gonna want something big.
