I'm thinking Purcell will eventually play more on the first two lines than on the third, at least until Gabby returns. I'm not really a fan of players like Purcell, but I think he can do well here.

That's actually a really interesting thought. And Purcell does have the skillset to provide offense from any of those lines so it gives a little extra roster flexibility I suppose. PLUS DL would then get the last laugh and get to RE-put Purcell back in that "1st line wing" box :laugh:

On top of that, I believe we were really gunning after Schultz so to have him come to us in a trade is a little...uhh...Godfatherish of Lombardi?
 
Reading between the lines a bit here, looks like DL had a deal for Purcell/Schultz that fell through because Porks was unwilling to commit to coming to NA. Just a guess.

edit: Rosen - "LAK was close to landing Purcell. Based on last night's correspondence, trade held up by unwillingness for prospect included > EDM to sign." So that basically confirms the idea. Wonder if we still want Schultz...

So Purcell and Schultz for Marchment, Porkins and something else maybe? I wouldn't hate it and I'm curious to see this Purcell in LA's system and him in Gaborik's spot. Schultz is such an unknown with only having seen him the dumpster firs that is Edm. Is he decent in a system with more structure, is he part of the problem, is he better than McBain? Too many unknowns.

And... Nevemind. Florida sneaks in outta nowhere.

That's my thought. Didn't want to give up a pick, prospect fell through.

Especially since Rosen was 90% sure about Purcell, and has said he heard nothing about Schultz. Maybe revisit Schultz in the offseason?
