if Polak and a nobody got Toronto two 2nd round picks Im worried about what a decent Dman will cost this year. hopefully Dean doesnt splurge too much unless its worth the cost

Problem is...

If we win the Cup, then WHATEVER the cost was, it was worth it.

If we miss playoffs, then its automagically a horrific trade, bad asset management, DL sucks, etc.

It we make a decent run, then "meh", did we what we had to do.

Exactly.

I'd also say looking at things now, if we do NOTHING, and flame out, then this was a wasted year. And what will those assets really mean anyway as we hurtle towards a rebuild? I can see why people feel the opposite way though and it's just a philosophical difference, no 'right' answers here.

I'm gonna say this is classic DL misdirection and he's gonna blow us away out of left field by the weekend

So you're saying we're getting Ladd and Yandle?

I approve.

I hope we place Gaborik on IR until the playoffs and get someone like Ladd, Boedker, Hudler, Vrbata etc. No Eric Staal please.

However, a dman, such as Hamhuis, sounds less specatcular but could make more sense.

But I'm realistic, we probably won't get a "big" name...

Just... don't give up a 1st rd pick again for a player that's not worth it (i.e. for the Sekeras of this league)

Sekera was worth a first round pick though. And I could care a less about McKeown because by the time he's even ready to be an NHL player, let alone an impact one, the Kings will be exiting their window.

I said that a while back too. Hilarious center mismatches.

It just seems like the left field move that Dean would do. It would be epic just for the immediate reactions on this board, lol.

http://nhl.nbcsports.com/2016/02/24/report-kings-will-only-add-d-man-if-price-is-modest/

The Los Angeles Kings were looking hard at the market for the longest time, wondering what might make sense in terms of a defenseman. But a source suggested to me Tuesday evening that Kings GM Dean Lombardi has now decided the high prices on the thin rental-defenseman market may not be worth it. I still think Lombardi is willing to add a defenseman if the price is modest, but I don’t think he’s going to be as aggressive as he was last year when he went for Andrej Sekera for a first-round pick.

thats my dude!

Gaborik easily could have blown out his knee... he may not be back for the playoffs.

Agreed. The LTIR until the playoffs thing is just the hopeful end of it. Let's not forget the sort of conditioning and timing you lose being out for 2 or more months...

Teddy Purcell?

On the plus side, Gaborik has done this kind of thing so many times he's undoubtedly a pro at it.

I would argue since he's older it will be harder for him to do it. And Kane last year it was upper body so he could skate. Gaborik won't be able to do so and that will not only make the comeback longer. He won't be in skating shape as quickly either.

They say guys like Hamhuis and Russell will go for like a 2nd rounder and like B prospect.

So if an A- prospect like Forbort is thrown in you're talking 3rd rounder? Great! :naughty:

So something like
Muzzin/Doughty
*****/Martinez
%%%%/Schenn

**** Markov/Emelin
%%%% Russell/Gardiner

or something along those lines.

if the market on right wingers is as weak as it seems to me. (hudler, vrbata, eriksson... pass) why not venture into getting a rental second center and unleash carter back on the right wing? he has been overpowering fast recently and he has chemistry with both kopi and lucic in separate situations. just to add something to talk about.

for dmen. I would like to see shattenkirk or myers. hamhuis and yandle are big names but both left side d. what I'd like to see is someone who can play with a level of confidence, that has term and will allow the coaches to play doughty 5+ mins less a night and get martinez back to the left side. friggn voynov.

Not from the podcasts I've heard, and esp Bobby Mac and Elliotte Friedman. Sellers market and lots of teams looking for D and the bidding will drive up the price, esp for Hamhuis, if he decides to waive his NMC.

As for Hamhuis, one of the Vancouver papers said from DH that he's not been asked to waive his NMC and if he decides to do so, it will be up to his family.
He moved from the states to Vancover because it's what his family wanted, so it's nota given he'd waive to come back.

And I hope DL would avoid overpaying for another rental. with the CAp possibly going down by 2 to 4 M (rumored last week) can't see how DL would fit the 5M or so DH will get on a new deal.

I think he'll settle for a D he can afford, esp if he's also looking (rumored) for a forward.

Bobby Mac saying the the Rangers are interested in Eric Staal and that as many as 15 teams have contacted Stevie Y about Drouin.

Shattenkirk ain't happening.

as realistic and more probable than hamhuis/yandle. the blues would be after an impact left winger and back up goalie (seem to have those available). shattenkirk has no nmc/ntc that he'd have to waive. but it would be too good to be true so i almost have to agree.
