I think with gaborik out we need more scoring not another defenseman. We need to get the offense going again people or we may not even make the playoffs. We have King playing top 6 mins which we all know i don't like.
I agree I think Dean will be targeting a forward more than a defenceman, However I do think he will add a depth dman if it's cheap or makes sense.

DL needs to do whatever he can to get a top 4 D that can move the puck and kill penalties. The pk is bleeding to death. Martinez is wearing down fast and how long can Doughty keep his minutes up? Another "cheap" bottom pairing guy isn't going to help. The only prospect I would keep off the table is Kempe. Adding another winger isn't going to help near enough and should be the last resort.

Moreover, Anaheim has plenty of cap to get even better and hoping they just screw up the team chemistry is not a strategy.

I don't know why but I would kind of like to see Yakupov on the RW for us. I would do something around Forbort for Yak. I know I'm going to get killed on this but oh well...it intrigues me.

Thought it was a little shocking that Rosen brought this up in the comments of his blog in response to someone discussing Staal:

"Jon Rosen Mod LB • 2 minutes ago

Asked about Staal recently. Understand that the team has kicked the tires a little bit but there's no real fit. I think "not really" was the response when I had asked whether there was any interest."

I wouldn't even keep Kempe off the table if a long-term top-4 option is available. That's our most glaring hole by far. But I agree in general, those top guys are dying slowly and god forbid any of Doughty/Muzzin/Martinez get hurt (knock on wood).

It's nice that we have experienced depth to call up in Schultz and Ehrhoff but uggggghhhh I don't even want to think about that.

I'll be your wingman on that one. I think a more structured system than that **** storm in EDM would do wonders for him BUT the reason that will never work out for us is that Sutter wouldn't give him the time of day.

That and Edmonton probably doesn't want him anywhere in the division. If we could get him and Shultz without giving up too much that would be good. A change of scenery is exactly what they need and they would benefit from structure. Hell look at how much better Schenn has been since coming here.

Anaheim doesn't have the space when you look at their rfas.

Probably but honestly I don't anything to do with Schultz. He might be able to get fixed but we don't have the time to go about fixing him properly. Yak I see as a low risk high reward type of player. Shultz is that one guy in the group project you have to drag his ass through the mud to get to where you want to be.

Agreed Anahiem has done a great job drafting Dmen talent the problem is they are all getting paid and soon. Stoner, Fowler, Vatanen, and Lindholm will all require various raises in a few years. Their D core reminds me of Vancouver's a few years back. No Doughty on the team but a ton of Elite 2/3 guys.

He would be more something to try next year not in a playoff run.
But will he take less than what his qualifying offer is?

Oilers are going to want players back so that pushes anything to probably the offseason.

Yak could work out really nice here. Give him defensive support, simplify the game for him (Kings system/breakout isn't overly difficult for the wingers to learn), have him watch video of Toffoli and bam... profit!

Sekera was worth a first round pick though. And I could care a less about McKeown because by the time he's even ready to be an NHL player, let alone an impact one, the Kings will be exiting their window.

It just seems like the left field move that Dean would do. It would be epic just for the immediate reactions on this board, lol.

Gaborik easily could have blown out his knee... he may not be back for the playoffs.

Yak is too small/weak to succeed in our system. We rely in heavy forwards like King, Lucic, Pearson to forecheck and get the puck for us in the offensive zone.

Yak's not well suited to that at all.

I don't think that's accurate. The number shown there seems to already be prorated. Below it notes that the Jets have $54,733,140 in cap space. This chart seems to show that the Kings can only sign a player with an cap hit of $2,404,987 or lower.

Of course, putting Gaborik on LTIR would change that number.

Yea I think that's how it works as far as cap hit. But if the Kings traded for someone, they would only have to pay a portion of a players total cap hit.

Not sure how much of the season is left after the trade deadline, maybe 25%? So for 2.5M of space you can absorb a $10M contract. Pretty sure LTIR doesn't work the same way, though.

Gonna be a party
