Lebron saying "I love the NFL but Christmas is our day” as a cry for ratings really shows how bad things are getting.

To be fair Christmas day was always all day NBA. 12, 3, 6, 9pm. The NFL put on 2 duds. No one wants to get hurt before the playoffs.

That's not it. So many people have given up their cable for streaming. That's why those games got the numbers they did. Also being the first many people checked it out like the inaugural NBA cup. Sports is going to move over to streaming so the ones on cable will see diminishing numbers. Not a shock. Also those NFL games were also on TV taking views from the NBA.

As I previously said, when Steph and Bron hang it up, the biggest basketball star on the planet is Caitlin Clark. If the NBA doesn't fix things, they will become less relevant than the WNBA.

This is it more than anything else. Why bother tuning in top regular season game when you know there is a good chance star players are not playing?

This highlights 3's but the passing, defense, etc is all terrible here. There is literally no structure anymore and its just basically a bunch of guys playing basketball equivalent of pond hockey (street ball/park ball maybe best phrase)

tldw; there has been again a spike in 3 point attempts this season; however, the primary point isn't to shoot 3s, it is to increase spacing and get an uncontested layup. if defenses prevent that, you'll get an open a 3.

'Literally don't care': Redick responds to Barkley's job security comments

The Lakers coach kept his words on Charles Barkley brief after the analyst criticized Redick's team and questioned his job security on a broadcast.

"[Redick] said something about we're the reason people ain't watching this crappy product we got. ... Yeah, us," Barkley said. "Like we're out there jacking up a hundred 3s a night."

When Redick first broached the ratings issue, he argued against the widespread belief that the volume of 3-point shots being taken is prompting too many teams to play the same style and making the games less interesting.

"I don't think the league is as homogenized as a lot of people make it out to be," Redick said at the time. "There are certain rosters and certain players that because of their skill set, it makes sense to shoot a lot of 3s. What I think gets lost a little bit in the amount of 3-point attempts is what has been taken away, which is a steady decline in long 2s."

Redick said that 3s have also led to an uptick in points near the basket, as defenses cannot simply clog the inside because they must have personnel spread out on the perimeter to guard deep shots.

"The 3 has allowed more space for people to actually score at the rim and score in the paint," Redick said. "So that's the strategy."

It's just gotten very dull. Very little physical intensity anymore. Hard won rebounds are mostly a thing of the past and the amount of free trips to the rim because the guys who are supposed to be playing defense could barely scrounge up a dirty look. Just have the same two stars jack 3 balls and laugh it up I guess if that's the way they want to play.
Really just several variations of the same script. Team A builds a huge lead before half. Team B makes a valiant and meaningful comeback in Q3 going on a 18-3 run. Team B usually falls short unless Team A had been drinking the night before or they have a guy who's quality is can't miss. Only the last 5 minutes is played with much purpose and desire.

Not sure traditional viewership numbers can be taken at face value for how many eyeballs are really watching either. Took a couple night classes at a University last semester and I swear half the kids there had their laptops open with a stream of a basketball game the entire 4 months. Pro sports in general needs to figure a way to think beyond the traditional ways of content delivery sooner rather than later.

I hate the 3pt contest it's become, but what can you do? Can't build a team philosophy around a type of style that players no longer play.

When's the last time someone was in the draft who was a devastating post up weapon? What players really work on that part of their game once they're in the NBA? There are no more Kevin McHales or Hakeem Olajuwons developing out there. There's not even an Adrian Dantley or Waymon Tisdale. Kobe was probably the last player who really worked on a full array of post up moves, and he was a guard.
