Bruins bottom six:
Hall-Coyle-Hatheway
Greer-Frederic-Nosek

Lighting bottom six:
Colton-Paul-Maroon
(Namestnikov)-Bellemare-Perry

Leafs need to beef up.
Foligno over greer. But the point remians, our bottom 6 needs to get beefier.

Replacing Kerfoot with Knies is would be huge

How much better is

Hall-Coyle-Hatheway
Greer-Frederic-Nosek

than

Kerfoot - ROR - Jarnkrok
Engvall - Kampf - Acciari

?
Hathaway can break weak d's. Thats why they got him is the word. Our fools like acciari and Ror can do destruction. But I see that bruins bottom 6 better than us do. They also have a player under that bottom six if somebody gets injured. And will get. Frederic is also a lil pest. So yeah.. we gotta get dirtier and tougher. I give us 3.50 stars. Them bruins get 4.50 stars on these.

Exactly why Kerfoot, Engvall, ZAR need to be upgraded to legit bottom six players. The Bruins and Lightning seem to understand what playoff hockey is all about.
Just look at the difference a fourth liner Acciari made on the lineup.

Overdrive today had Marc Methot talking about the need for heavy players in the playoffs. Not many heavy players on the Leafs roster. Loved the comments on the Advance stat nerds... LOL...

Gabrikov and Chycurn just became a little cheaper with Boston now out.

We need to get much heavier. Acciari is a good start but he is a 4th liner.

Saving grace with Orlov and Hathaway is they are both a bit on the bonehead side and do take stupid PIMS. Orlov is known to over play his position. They are both good players but do have faults that can be exposed.

Forgot Foligno. Geez that bottom six is terrifying.

Can't forget that the purpose of having guys like Matthews, Marner, Nylander and Tavares is to slice and dice bottom six units like the Boston and Tampa lines based on a skill delta. This team's construction is a bet that skill trumps the other stuff, not to be scared of the other stuff.

Heres to all the stupid penalties Hathaway will take

Teammates don't penalize teammates.

Still hoping for Kane, especially if he decides Toronto is the only spot he wants to go, and we get him at a "Hall to Boston" type discount.

Could roll out 3 dominant lines, for example:

Bunting - Matthews - Kane
Jarnkrok - ROR - Marner
Engvall - Tavares - Nylander
ZAR - Kampf - Acciari

A lineup like that reminds me of the Pens team with Crosby on line 1, Geno on line 2, Kessel on line 3, just too much firepower to stop. At least one of those lines is going off every night.

And that strategy has failed time and time again unfortunately. Not to mention the top 6 of those other teams will be slicing and dicing our D if we don’t upgrade there. In any case one can hope

I'm not sure why. But I am getting a gut feeling about a Robertson trade. Which makes no sense cause the front office really values their homegrown guys. And it would be selling low at this point. But I'm just picturing a late deadline day deal that kind of comes in at once with all the other flurry of late deals. Maybe for some Dman, but I also picture some sort of change of scenery deal for another player in a similar situation. I truly don't know why, but I can picture it.

Brad Marchand said it best
"If you look at our team in the past, guys have tried to take less to win because we know that it bleeds through the lineup," Marchand said. "If you can have six guys that make lower salary other than three it's a lot harder to play against and that's why we've been good for so long."

Until this is fixed Leafs are going nowhere,

Having a more balance cap distribution is ideal. I think the Tavares signing was the wrong move for this franchise.

With that said, the cap situation in Boston (as it relates to its forward core) is more a function of timing than strategic planning on Boston’s management team or the willingness of their players to take a discount.

If Marchand and Bergeron were up for renewal 2-3 years ago they would be earning significantly higher than what they originally signed for. Having McAvoy at 9.5m (while deserving) is not exactly taking a discount either.

While this is another argument for another time and can be seen as an excuse for the contracts the core 4 have, I do think the Leafs timing was rather unfortunate. Signing them came after there was major contract inflation in the NHL (Bruins among other teams got these deals done before). But they came before the pandemic which kind of also halted the inflation as well.

I think the Draisaitl contract and then the Eichel contract really inflated things, setting the contracts up for the Leafs. Again, this could be a much deeper dive and argument for another time, but I personally think the timing for the Core 4 was unfortunate in that sense.

Did Marc Methot skip last year's playoffs? The team that won plays a high-possession game, isn't super heavy, and relies on analytics.
