(For my sanity) Can you please identify the “excess” teams and what players they would make available for us at reduced prices?

I'm keeping my eyes specifically on the usual dumpster fire teams like Vancouver, Arizona, and Philadelphia. With the transition in management, Nashville's interesting as well. Vancouver specifically hasn't made their big cap dump move yet, something that I'm sure that ownership wants if Allvin and JR truly want to rebuild. Carolina's in a really good position to squeeze Vancouver IMO.

Good thing we need a forward. Wait, what?
Just saying the price for say gavrikov was similar to what chariot got but now that’s doubtful to happen so maybe Carolina could grab him for a first or a conditional first which wouldn’t be terrible. They are in a good position to get a forward and d at a good price

Alright now bring out the crack pipes… Step 1: Ovi asks for a trade now that the caps are going into rebuild mode canes trade for Ovi and Wilson, 2x first morrow etc. part b: Ovi gets on the horn with his boys in Russia and gets them to release Nikishin. Iteration Gamma: profit
I mean Ovi is a pipe dream....

But if there was a way to get Wilson, I'd be for it. He's a POS, but I'd much rather have the POS on our side than anyone else.

If you are going to pay a 1st for Gavrikov then you may as well just pay the 2023 1st + 2024 1st + 2nd ask for Chychrun and get an extra two years.

For Chychrun apparently one of the issues with Arizona's suitors is that they want them to take back money. Carolina doesn't need to do that.

I’m in for that

How did that Chairot trade workout for Florida last year?

If they trade a 1st it should be for a forward with term
Can’t look at it that way or you’ll never make deals if your worried about how other deals in the past worked out for teams

For me, I'd rather use the 1st to improve our top 6 forwards. I think we can add a depth defenseman for less and still be in good shape. Use the prime assets at forward.
Which forwards other then Schmaltz that are known to be available would you give a first for

yup. thinking Boeser does not fetch a first round pick. I would pursue and offer 2nd with no retainage.

hold on. f*cked up. Boeser has two years remaining at $6.5mm per. thought it was only next season. Van has to retain some of this salary IMO. Probably why the guy hasn't been traded yet.

If the Canes acquire Chychrun, they might not need the Canucks to retain on Boeser. The difference in cap hit between Chychrun and what Skjei likely fetches in UFA can pay for the difference. The Chychrun contract runs for two more seasons beyond this one, the same amount of time as Boeser's. I may be approaching this too mathematically from a cap POV and not as much about trade value, however.

AZ really doesn’t have trade pressure re: Chychrun since he has term. They can keep him and either trade over the summer or play the game next TDL.

It doesn't have to be someone "known to be available". The front office has to figure that out. We (fans and media) didn't know Trocheck or Nino were available when the team got them.

If we can improve at forward without using the 1st, then sure, use it on D, but 1st priority IMO is forward.

Oh good. Maybe we discuss trading for EP.

I mean, if we're not the only fanbase discussing the ties between San Jose's front office and New Jersey's front office having an impact in the Meier trade, what about calling our old buddy JR, and among other things, remind him of how he saddled us with long bad contracts like Semin, and Jordan Staal still getting paid 6 million :naughty::laugh:

Nah, just kidding. A pro sports league would never let personal connections and human bias impact major decisions; they're consummate professionals :sarcasm:

Well everyone in the playoff race now except Carolina be Pitt has made moves. Hopefully there’s something because you know the players are in tune with what’s going on around the league and I’m sure it won’t send a good message if nothing is done

The Canes aren't going to do nothing. Come on. Just because they aren't rushing their moves like other teams doesn't mean that they aren't going to improve the team.

They aren’t rushing but a lot of the top options are off the table. Difference makers I might add. Dundon said there’s not a lot that makes this team better and I’d argue that the players that are off the board were the ones that make the team better

Especially with over $10 million in cap space that's burning a hole in our FO's pocket.

I'm worried we might make a move just to make a move for our top 6, and we get this year's Max Domi. I take some comfort in Dundon and Waddell separately saying they aren't gonna make a trade just to make a trade, but desperation can do crazy things.

I'm sure they'll do something, but it might not be a very popular player (Boeser maybe?).

A move to just make a move is useless if anything they should of just got a cap dump like Craig smith because they seem to wanna draft 10 plus players each draft
