Markstrom stinks but maybe he's a late bloomer.
'
I mean, he stinks both stats-wise and when you watch him play. Torts is the last guy you want to help develop that kid.

Maybe his awesome shot-blocking system will save him some bad games LO>

yeah, he might go by way of the Kari Lehtonen career path. Man, Luongo traded. what a weird deadline!

The only way I could see Stepan traded is if Sather thinks Miller has similar upside.

Miller was dominant on the international stage. He wasnt drafted to be a grinder.

Miller could be better than Stepan. Bigger, faster, stronger.

Detroit is reportedly out of Kesler race because they dont have a young center.

Pens, Philly and Rangers.

I have to wonder how Glen can work on dealing him and signing him at the same time. Doesn't he have to break off negotiations and get on the phone to actually make something happen?

They don't actually negotiate uninterrupted. It's a series of conversations with breaks in between. He can negotiate with Cally's people and be working on deals with a half dozen other teams at basically the same time. And that's only for one player...there are most certainly other other irons in the fire as well.

Where did you hear this?

Sather will resign Callahan that will be his big move of the deadline. i hope that i am wrong..

I certainly hope that's the case, but the silence from our organization has been a bit deafening. Maybe it's just the Cally/deadline anxiety creeping in.

Honestly, why would they discuss what they are working on? If they were to say that contract negotiations with Callahan had fallen apart how does that help them get the most value in a trade?

Ryan Callahan's value according to pro sports critics is around 5.7 Million, for people to get upset over 300K is crazy. Buffalo was going to offer him something close to 7 and for 7 years, but he prefers to stay here and is leaving money on the table.

Callahan is a 2nd line shut-down forward, who can score 20 to 25 goals in a season, and hit around 50 points, while also playing on the PK and PP, and is a two way forward who can play all 3 zones of the ice above average. Cally is not expected to hit 60+ points, guys like Nash are, and he has what 4 more points than Cally this season? Those guys you pay 7 to 8 million plus.

Over the last few seasons including this one he has recorded 158 points in 226 games! You judge him on this season is like judging Nash or Lundqvist on this season, it's not fair. You have to look at multiple seasons and see what he can do moving forward. He played strong in the Olympics, and has had some excellent games like against Colorado. He is more than capable of having more and more games like that on a consistent basis.

A Canucks beat writer thinks its the Flyers and Penguins for Kesler

Whoa. Lots of NHL trade testorsterone out there tonight. To review, my personal Kesler trade final is Flyers versus Pens.

Kesler Trade Watch: Flyers playing "substantial offer" card in high-stakes poker game with Pens to acquire Kesler. Curious about Edler, too.

This Flyer guy think Philly is in to drive up the price for Pittsburgh

Internally, #Flyers aren't talking Kesler. Externally, they're pushing the price up on other teams. Some people don't know the difference

Isn't it obvious enough if you're a GM and the caller ID pop's up with cigar, glennie... You don't answer of course, but he rambles on about some fwd he's looking to move on the answering machine..

:handclap: completely agree with this. It's scary how much this fanbase has turned on Cally. I can understand not wanted to give him a 7x6.5 contract, but the amount of anger towards a potential 6x6 contract is pretty confusing to me.

That's not actually what I meant by quiet. I don't expect that. I meant what are we doing with Stralman, are we exploring other deals or options. Is Cally the sole focus? I know teams don't really come out and tell you what they're doing, but following all the TSN and RDS guys today, I've heard just about everyone else involved in some buzz but us. Not a big deal, just the absence felt noteworthy.

If he signs it I am sure it will make much more sense in 6 years.

AV and Kesler has a small beef over AV going public with Kesler's drop in production. AV felt the injury from the 2011 playoffs was part of the reason but there was more.

It lasted a week. Vancouver is like the Post with the Jets. New controversy every week.

So, at the peak of his value, he's not worth the money he's being offered or asking for. Yeah, not seeing any problem whatsoever a couple years into the contract.

Why is it scary? Ryan Callahan isn't worth $6,000,000 today. Yet you want to pay him that next year and the five years after that? To me that's scary.

By this logic, the Rangers will never sign another UFA or UFA-to-be, unless they take a big discount like Girardi did. UFAs always get paid well beyond their "value".

To me, Callahan is absolutely worth a 6x5mil or 6x5.5 contract. 6x6 is just what you have to expect.

Those blinded by their loyalty to Callahan certainly aren't seeing any problem with it now, but they will.
