it seems like Anaheim is gunning for Vanek and you can bet the Isles are going to want Vataanen in the package so Vataanen might be coming to New York, just not in the way you will like. Since Anaheim doesn't want rentals, I can't see any way we get Vataanen from them. We really have nothing they will want unless we are trading Stepan which seems counter productive. Or unless they want Richards! he's not a rental at all! :D

lol lets Gomez them.

Well that escalated quickly...

The guy doesn't learn from his mistakes. At least Cally's contract would be more movable than Richards or Drury's. Any type of NMC or NTC should be a deal breaker for Sather.

I see this contract being worse than Drury's.

Interesting, if true. Didn't see AMac going to anyone but a contender in truth. Flyers obviously think they can sign him because they shouldn't be going in on pure rentals.

For some perspective - Drury signed for $7.05m/year when the salary cap was 50.3m.

That would the equivalent of signing a $9.8m/year contract today.

Or, if you don't believe the cap is going up to 70m (let's use 65m), it's the equivalent of someone being paid $9.1m/year. Callahan's contract would be nowhere near that bad.

The market looks too saturated for a good return for Callahan. St. Louis was a motivated buyer and they made their move.

Looks like the Rangers have painted themselves into a corner.

McDonald is a poor man's Timonen. The Flyers gave up a 1st to get Fartsmell and Timonen's negotiating right in 2007 and signed him right after. Great trade.

A 2nd and a 3rd for AMac isnt too bad but he's no Timonen.

Easily could have gotten a 1st and 2nd for Girardi.

I do like his contract though. If he refused to take anything less than $6m a year, I'd be okay trading him for that kind of return.

They could have acquired Robidas, who is a RHD for nothing and traded Girardi for assets they need.

They could have stayed competitive this year into the postseason while adding assets.

Thats what smart GMs. Do. They make a good situation better.

My prediction:

Rangers get the 6th seed, lose in the 1st or 2nd round, get the 20th overall pick, pick some project forward. Callahan and Girardi for five or six more years.

Fun.

So, at about 3 o'clock the report was "Callahan signs". One and a half hours later, he really isn't signed, and again all is quiet.

Wait until tomorrow. Someone will panic and take him off our hands. I really do not want him for 6 mil.
