Rakell could be an off-season move. Dubas did enough today to make up for keeping him. He got a bunch of seconds and thirds for players on expiring contracts.

For real. Why trade Zetterlund and Walman at all? You have a bunch of prospects and picks and are going to draft Schaefer, Hagens or Misa this year.

I'm guessing that Dubas found out that not a single team valued an undersized defensemen in Grzelcyk come playoff time? I give him credit for managing to a get 2nd for Beauvillier, that was a feat in itself.
Back in the day we traded for Streit and Corrado for playoff insurance, can imagine someone wasn’t offering at least fifth or higher if Gryz was as retained at 50%.
Little surprised by that. Mostly that we didn't get anything for him.
Overall though, pleasantly surprised with the deadline.

The thing with prospects is they don’t really need to reach their maximum upside to be valuable, examples being us trading Angelo Esposito, who flopped epic style, as part of the package for Hossa.
Probably a better example would be Hanowski & Agostino. Both flopped but they were on an upward trajectory at the time. They were developing well up to that point and increased their value relative to their draft position. Yeah Iginla had control on where he went, but still.
We’re not really in position to be packaging futures for actual NHLers right now though.

Grz is being resigned, if they think they are going to be competitive after this summer, and they're planning on trading Karlsson, they've stated enough times how much they love Grzs game and how he runs the powerplay... They are going to resign him... Not a good move, but they're going to do it.

If 2 weeks ago someone said we would get 2 2nds, a 3rd, 4th+ for 2 3rd liners and a 5/6th defenseman they would of gotten laughed off the forum. Dubas did good. There was no rush to trade Rak. What sucked was there was no 3rd party retention needed today to weaponize cap space.

Yeah, very far fetched regardless, but if Sully is our coach to start next season… I for one won’t be there for it.
I wonder how much value Letang really has left. He's looked rough this year.
I think he could still contribute on a contender as a 4th dman (with a really good partner) or on the third pair, but I wonder if Letang even wants that and if anyone is willing to absorb his contract.
