Honestly, people like me saying they’re gonna try to retool, we’re just speculating. I don’t see the point in getting all worked up right now. We’re clearly tanking the rest of this season. Hopefully we end up 4th.

We can argue about their plan in July, by which point it’ll be painfully obvious that this is either a full rebuild or a quick retool

Honestly this doesn't feel like all that much for Boston. If Florida loses to either Tampa or Toronto, which feels entirely possible, they just get a 2027 2nd for Marchand as a rental.

Yeah that's a "Marchand asked to be dealt to Florida" return imo, which is weird because he and Sweeney kept talking about how both sides were trying to get something done to make him a lifer.

I do think Florida's gonna be f***ing AWFUL to play against in the playoffs with Tkachuk (assuming he's back), Bennett, and Marchand. Tampa has some firepower up top but I wouldn't be surprised if the Panthers just kinda physically kick the shit out of them. Toronto even more so with their forwards.

Dubas any time the media asks a tough question:

What evidence is there that these picks are going to be packaged for players? Basically the reverse of what Dubas has been doing to this point.

And how does that make sense?

Get great value being sellers. Then overpay in picks as always happens as a buyer?

That is the supposed grand plan?
You're not watching his pressers. Watch today's.
He outright says that's the plan.
Besides, he said this is the plan a long time ago too. Just re-affirming it now.

I don't mean to say that ALL of them will be used as trade chips, but a fair few will be. He apparently wants to build our next core with a mixture of draft picks and trade/FA's.
Dubas still has the goal of giving this core one more shot or w/e, so he's in a rush. In July they'll start flexing their cap space and surplus picks.

But I agree with you in that this is nonsense. It's not gonna work. They won't win a Cup this way.
This needed to be scorched earth. We needed to get 1sts from Rakell, Crosby, Karlsson (at 50%).
Some of this isn't Dubas' fault though. FSG aren't allowing him to fully blow it up.

Oh, man, the Bruins retained 50% on Marchand, and the 2027 2nd only becomes a first if the Panthers win at least two rounds with Marchand appearing in at least 50% of the playoff games.

And while I think it's likely that the Panthers will hit those conditions, there is still a very real possibility that the Bruins will end up with less of a return for Marchand (with max retention!) than the Pens got for Luke Schenn.

I know what result I'm rooting for, now

I don't see how they can retool even if they wanted to. What FA is going to sign with them that is actually a difference maker? There's only a handful of those guys scheduled for UFA at this point, and there's going to be lots of teams with cap space. And assuming the Penguins aren't willing to trade their 1sts, because that would be really dumb, they don't have much of any assets to get a good young player outside of Rust and Rakell.

Did anyone dare ask exactly how keeping Rakell "is in the best interest for the team?"
Do any of you read what others have posted several times about this? It's not opinion. It's literally just the f***ing facts and backed by analytics, eye tesst, and virtually every f***ing measurable metric.

Rakell has always been the best 2way winger on this team the moment he got here. I have been a huge fan of his since his draft, he's fantastic at being the player that is just smart at the reads to get back or create turnovers. He stabilizes Sid's line and has each time he was used there. Sullivan used to refuse using him on Sid's line in favor of Rust and now gives him both while f***ing over Geno.

Sid's line, its absolute garbage without Rakell. This franchise wants to keep Sid happy and comfortable. Guess what player does that?

Yes. Ultimately actions will tell the story more than anything else.

People are delusional if they think
Marner and his ilk are coming here…sure we can pay them but we’re not a desirable destination…we’re right up there with Buffalo and Winnipeg lol…I don’t think that’s the plan either…trading assets for Peterka makes more sense

Those picks can be traded for young players or used to sign RFAs to an offer sheet.
If the situation presents itself for a player who can have an immediate impact would have to be this year or maybe next. They could also probably get something decent with the Rangers pick if they get it this year.

Dubas is in transition here and knows the system needed a influx of potential prospects. Draft top 5 hopefully and keep adding and by 2026-27, the younger guys are ready for prime time. What I want is Dubas to bring in a new coach who works well with younger players in development. Can't keep Sullivan. Like Chuck Noll, move on to another coach.

Sid is never getting traded, dude. Not only does he have a full NMC, but FSG isn't gonna allow Dubas to trade the only player putting butts in seats. That's just business.
