Dubas’ plan for a quicker rebuild should be offloading Rakell and EK and Rust this summer and getting the Pens in position to select McKenna and DuPont…anything else is not likely going to get us the top talent we need to become a contender quicker…

Doubt Dubas is dumb enough to trade the face of the city and the franchise. That could get him fired.

One more note on the Glass trade, I don't think Stillman is anything of note, but one benefit with him is that he's not veteran status in the AHL going forward while Gruden is. The Penguins AHL team has a lot of vets right now (part of why they're really good) and they probably didn't want to waste a veteran spot on Gruden. Gruden is under contract for next year, so getting out of his deal allows them to replace him with a much better AHL vet.

This point was probably already brought up, but swapping Gruden for Stillman for that reason alone is worth it. You can get way better AHL vets than Gruden to help out WBS.

I don't think the team will be as bad as they are this year, next year.

People expecting to get McKenna and Dupont in the next two drafts are kidding themselves IMO.

Even if I wish it was true.

I hope that Dubas is simply gaslighting Pens' fans and is not so delusional to believe the player or two away idea.

I dont expect much from Pittsburgh media but what is up with these stupid questions. "Do you expect ___ to be part of the program moving forward?"

What is a GM supposed to say to that. No hes not a part of the program, hes a bum and we tried really hard to get rid of him

Basically any words he says can be on videos or articles.
I expect almost no info in these pressers. We. Got 0

So their lineup for the rest of the year is probably:

Rakell-Crosby-Rust
Novak-Malkin-Tomasino
Heinen-Hayes-Bemstrom
Dewar-Lizotte-Acciari
Imama

Shea-Letang
Grzelcyk-Karlsson
Kolyachonok/Graves-Timmins
Kolyachonok/Graves-POJ

One positive with the moves today is that it basically locked in Tomasino on Malkin's RW for the rest of the year, Dubas got rid of the 2 guys (Beauvillier and Glass) that I think Sullivan was more likely to play on that line than Tomasino. Sullivan seems to hate Heinen and Bemstrom, so that at least clears the way for Tomasino to play with Malkin for the rest of the year.

Just finished listening to Dubas' recording. I'm even more convinced on what his plan is going to be, so maybe I can help lay it out for @Empoleon8771 and others.

His answer to the last question, which was from Rossi, was the most revealing, but it ties into what he detailed early in the press conference. The Pens have an array of picks in the top three rounds for the next three years. They will use those picks to draft quality talent but also as leverage in trades. They also have substantial cap space.

What this does is give them options.

If there is a player who shakes loose or who they feel they can target as a young contributor, they have assets to acquire them via trade.

If there is a free agent who they think can speed up the timeline, they have the cap space to pursue them.

And in the meantime, they'll continue to use the draft picks they have to bring in quality, young talent to develop.

It allows them to make choices depending on how different scenarios unfold. If Marner, Chychrun, etc. make it to free agency, maybe they're big players there. If they don't, maybe trades are an option. And the back-up plan will always be to continue to draft and develop.

He's not backing himself into a corner. It's not, "Spend in 2025 free agency or bust." Instead, it's preparing to act when the opportunity presents itself. Marner available? Go for him. Buffalo hires a new GM and some attractive pieces are available via trade? Let's make a deal.

EDIT: Just to be clear, I think Dubas would love for guys like Marner and Chychrun to be available in free agency this year. He goes hard after them, maybe swings a Karlsson trade, then uses some assets to bring in one or two other young, talented players. That still allows them to preserve some assets for 2026 and 2027.

But he's preparing alternatives in case that doesn't happen.

I don't do drugs anymore because I took 3 edibles because I thought they weren't working and then I was violently high until 7 am the next morning

This wasn't a mistake from inexperience, I started taking GLP-1 while drastically reduces your digestion and I thought my weed tolerance had just gotten super high. Nope, turns out it just takes a lot longer to kick in.

Also in terms of good news, GLP-1 basically kicked my alcohol cravings so that's neat. Down to about 9-12 beers a week now
