Now I gotta watch Kyle do his little smirk, push his glasses up, and talk about how the bar was set purposely high on Rakell and they didn't feel anyone met the ask, so they didn't feel obligated to move a 32 year old having his best season ever because he's shooting at like 150% his normal success rate.

Whatever, I got a nice bowl of penne and pesto here.

Yeah it's way too early to be painting Brunicke as "destined" to be a part of the Penguins future. He looks like a great prospect about on par with McGroarty, that's great. Still a ton left to be seen with him.

Koivunen is the same way. Considering how badly guys like Puustinen and Bemstrom have done in the NHL after playing really well in the AHL, I think people should be cautious with Koivunen. It's totally possible that he could dominate the AHL but not have the speed of play to succeed in the NHL.

The Org says they're going to make one more go at it with Sid, and I support that plan
This is not a plan, this is sheer insanity. Sid will be nearly 39 when next year playoffs come and the kind of roster we are likely to boast would be impossible to be carried to glory even by prime Crosby. If the powers that be want to keep some decent players around so Crosby won't feel too frustrated, that's one thing. If they think they have a real shot at anything other than the draft lottery any time soon.... they are being delusional, pure and simple.

Which again is why I feel like missing out on picks is sort of self-defeating. We should really be getting as many of those draft picks as possible because even with our prospect pool getting better, the reality is, most of those kids will never be anything more than a footnote.

You'd think we of all clubs would remember that.

Rust & Rakell are both 30 something road blocks for a team that should be doing everything in their power to get younger, stronger and faster in a hurry.

Dubas was luckily given a gift and he threw it away. I don't care what anyone says, when today is looked back upon many months from now, there will be a ton of hand wringing on what could have been. Of course, that will be called hindsight...

Call it biased, but I feel like Dubas would have done that had it been on the table. Hell, I think he would have taken less on the draft pick if he could have pulled off Clarke.

I think the most likely scenario is that the Penguins were getting great offers in terms of draft picks, possibly even 2 1sts in value, but Dubas wanted a top prospect or young player to justify trading Rakell.

I always thought the three most likely landing points for Rakell were Dallas, LA, and Carolina (once Rantanen was traded). Dallas went with Rantanen and the other two stood pat-Carolina's in a transition year but overperforming, and as for LA......I wonder if Rob Blake had a moment of clarity after the Rantanen and Nelson trades where he looked at the Kings roster and then decided that even if he broke the bank for Rakell it wouldn't have been enough and folded?

It doesn’t count for much, but I’d least rather have a 25 year old version of Nieto on L4 than a 32 year old version of Nieto on L4.

Small victories but the 25 year old guy might at least get a bit better.

I love having tons of really unlikable zero-charisma dweebs in the org. It is the best.

Depends on the context. When I was in high school trying to get into Carnegie Mellon, a B- / C+ was a terrible grade!
But once I was actually at CMU, and taking classes alongside a dozen valedictorians? Yeah, that grade was at least decent, albeit not really "good".
Lol U of C general honors used to be a 3.0 GPA. CMU was the only place that came close to how miserable we were.

Let's take a legitimate look at the TDL season for Dubas:
  1. Lars Eller for 2027 3rd round pick and 2025 CHI 5th round pick [Eller signed for free in 2024 off-season]
  2. Philip Tomasino for 2027 4th round pick
  3. P.O Joseph for future considerations (essentially free)
  4. Marcus Pettersson, Drew O’Connor for Danton Heinen, Vincent Desharnais, Melvin Fernstrom, NYR's c. 2025 1st (top 13 protected). (Signed DOC for free, got Pettersson from Sprong)
    1. Vincent Desharnais for 2028 5th
  5. Michael Bunting, 2026 4th for Luke Schenn, Tommy Novak (Got Bunting in the Guentzel trade)
    1. Luke Schenn for 2026 2nd round pick and 2027 4th round pick
  6. Anthony Beauvillier for 2025 2nd round pick (signed for free)
  7. Conor Timmins, Connor Dewar for late pick (by late pick, I assume they mean 6th or 7th)
  8. Cody Glass for 3rd round pick +
    1. Got paid a 3rd + 6th to take him for Frasca.
    2. Additional prospects to come.

Eller, 4th, Pettersson, DOC, Bunting, Beauvillier, Glass, Frasca, and a "late pick"

for

2025 1st, 2025 2nd, 2025 3rd, 2025 5th, 2026 2nd, 2027 3rd, 2027 4th, 2028 5th, plus another 2025 3rd and another 2025 6th, Fernstrom, Heinen, Novak, Timmons, Dewar, and any minor leaguers acquired with Glass.

If this is upsetting to you, you need to f*** off in the worst possible way. We are also on pace to get a top 5 pick in this draft.

ETA: Looking at who we sent out, honestly, Novak is as good if not better than them all.
