I think Rust doesn't want to leave the Penguins and I bet the Penguins respect that wish, at least until the last year of his deal. I know some people here have issues with how regarded Rust is by the team, but I'm pretty fine just letting him play on Crosby's RW until Crosby retires.

Like I've said a bunch, make L1 Malkin-Crosby-Rust and just rebuild the rest of the team.

I agree with the side/Geno pairing and was saying early in the year that should have run sid with malkin together, even if the third player wasn't rust or rakell and tried to see if we could have gotten by with something like Sid, Geno and bunting/beau/Tomasino ect and allowed glass or Hayes (or now Novak) to center rak/rust for some top six depth just to get some balance in the lineup.

The MINIMUM for Dubas today should be moving out Grz, Acciari and Beauvillier. I am skeptical that the first two will be moved, unfortunately. No idea why, just that this organization does weird (a.k.a. dumb) shit.

If he does more, gravy. But the UFAs have to be out the door. And one more guy with term out the door would be great.

Chris Johnston on trade centre was discussing Rakell and said the internal debate in Pittsburgh is that his contract might make him even more valuable at the draft or next deadline when the cap is higher.

I hope that's just Dubas negotiating in the media. I've always preferred a bird in the hand to two in the bush.
This is the definition of mind****ing a situation.

So many bad things could happen between now and the draft. Rakell could finish the season cold, he could get hurt, the market could shift with other guys becoming available.

Just take the bag, you idiots.

Why is this idiot going to risk not trading Rakell because he might have more value down the line? Sure but what if he doesn’t you freaking moron!

Where the hell is iceddcap?

Dubas knows the market is very hot for Rakell and will heat up today. Someone will offer a deal that Dubas has to take. Better be a top 6 young center or a top prospect RD like Clark for starters. There are still deals for Karlsson at some point and top 5 potential pick this year. I prefer the Rangers stink next year and Pens now have a top 10 pick. But if it is 14, pens still get a nice player. Pens can have a McQueen at 5. Then Martin or maybe O'Brien at 14, in this draft. Or Spencer at LW with the Rangers pick. Add in a top RD like Clark with the WB guys and Brunicke, Howe in juniors and Dubas has the system in great shape Rutgers M, Pickering, Koivunen, Ponomarev, Broz and one of the goalies and Pens still have 2026 deals and draft to add. Plus, Novak, Tomasino, are there to be in the next Pens transition.

Today feels like the sort of day where a Karlsson trade could come out of nowhere. I'm really curious about Detroit and Vegas, those two are usually quiet until they explode with a deal no one saw coming (Hronek/Hanifin/Hertl/Mantha/etc.)

The esteemed Mike Rupp had Vegas as in on Karlsson yesterday. Not sure how voracious a rumor that is given that I've never heard of Rupp having inside info on anything other than a penalty box but if you take the most bat shit crazy possibility and just assign it to VGK you're probably on the right trail.

That Canes-Stars stuff is wild, man. What if Rantanen just refuses to sign anywhere because he's intent on going back to Colorado on a sweetheart deal or something?

I hope like hell Dubas isn't f***ing stupid and pushes too far on the Rakell stuff. Just take one of the no-brainer good deals out there and stop this nonsense of trying to get perfection.

Hope Schenn is flipped too. Not that it matters to this team that he sucks, but other teams always seem to covet the guy so, y'know, there's more just sitting there waiting for the Pens.

Ideally Beau, Grz, and Acciari are all moved, but if those guys are the only ones dealt today, I'd consider it a colossal failure to not take advantage of this market and Rakell's career year. Just dumb as f***.

It's purely speculation but a lot of Oilers fans are thinking that the Oilers are targeting Rakell. With them not having a 2025 or 2026 1st and no 2025 2nd, Savoie would basically be a requirement for me to do that.

Arvidsson (with him getting flipped somewhere else), Savoie and a 2026 2nd for Rakell seems pretty reasonable on paper. I'm not 100% sold on Savoie, but I think my judgement is somewhat clouded by Buffalo trading him last off-season for McLeod.

What is one of the no brainer good deals he’s being offered

Again, they don’t have to trade Raks. And there are reasons to keep him if they want to “try” again next season…like they keep saying they’ll do with Sid on the team.

This has almost a zero chance of happening, but if Dubas ever made it known to the buyers that Rust could be in play, the offers would be even better than those for Rakell. And that would be the better move for us, but again I doubt this will ever come to pass. But reputations matter, and Rust would suddenly move past everybody not named Rantanen. Rust is nowhere near as good of a player as Phil Kessel, but teams would easily pay way more for Rust than a guy like Kessel back in the day. Reputations matter.

I am probably keeping Rakell for next season if the best offer I can get is Savoie and a 2nd. No more midgets, I’ve had enough.

That would be cool. They have almost no futures but guys like Roy and Hague are intriguing

Not to sound like a brute but I hope Savoie isn't targeted. I'm tired of 5'9" Penguins hockey.

He's not in play because he won't waive his NMC.

I am sure Johnston is butchering the translation like most reporters but if there are good offers out there don’t think I gamble that “maybe he’s worth more next go round”

A wise man (Fat Joe  ) once said “yesterdays price… is not todays price”
