Holding onto a peak value Rakell in one of the craziest sellers markets in a while would be the epitome of penguins hockey. Can't wait to trade him next year for 2034 3rd after he puts up 12 goals and 16 assists.
There are stooges in the media actually making that argument.. Madden, Mackey and Caufield are a few that I heard.................obtuse.

If Dubas craps the bed today....

With regards to Rakell - there has been essentially zero talk about interest in Rakell. There might not have been any offers for Rakell yet, much less any "no-brainer good deals." It's possible that all the GMs who are willing to send out insane offers have made their trades, and the remaining GMs aren't willing to pay that much. It's not worth getting that worked up over, really.

In terms of Schenn, well, it's probably nothing, but I can't help but notice that the Pens have given Novak a number already, but not Schenn: Pittsburgh Penguins 2024 - 2025 Roster | Pittsburgh Penguins
If I was forced to make a bet, I'd say they don't move Schenn, but I don't think they've ruled out the possibility, either.

First, a quick reminder: we often have several trades that don't get announced until after 3pm, due to the teams being in the phone queue with the NHL at the deadline. Once all of those finish trickling out, I expect we'll see Grzelyck and Beauvillier will have been traded. I seem to recall Ruhwedel was a last minute trade last year, after all, and those two are definitely "missed out on everything else" sort of moves for the playoff teams. I'm not convinced any other moves will be made in the end - they could easily be cases of "things just didn't work out in time."
It's Yohe, and I know--dude sucks, but he's said multiple times interest in Rakell is significant and Dubas has a number of teams calling. I think the hold up is teams waiting to see what Rantanen's situation ends up being (cuz why wouldn't you throw your offers at that guy first) and maybe waiting to see what happens on the Boeser front before going back to Rakell.

-edit- And, Dubas is probably asking for the moon and the stars. Which is what you should do in negotiations. But teams probably have that on hold while they keep an eye on Rantanen, Boeser, and maybe Marchand.

Yeah, wasn't the issue with Colorado that he wanted $13M+ and they were adamant they would not go higher than MacKinnon?

I don't know if $12M's gonna do it.

My guess is that they have some sort of basis for a deal for Beauvillier but they're not pulling the trigger on it until they know what's going on with Rakell. If Dubas decides to not trade Rakell by like 2, I think they just take whatever is being offered for Beauvillier.

Chris Johnston on trade centre was discussing Rakell and said the internal debate in Pittsburgh is that his contract might make him even more valuable at the draft or next deadline when the cap is higher.

I hope that's just Dubas negotiating in the media. I've always preferred a bird in the hand to two in the bush.
I hear a certain local reporter prefers his bird in his hand while there's two in his wife's.....oh, nevermind damn it.

  • Haha
Reactions: Sideline
Deadline day so dead, TSN has been doing a segment on Ovechkin for like 10 minutes now
Not surprising. Seems like it’s the new norm. Will probably get a bunch of them crammed through at 3 when teams realize they’ve got the best offers they’re going to get.

Both phones at the league office are acting up again
