Trade Deadline Thread (March 3)

Let's trade a 3rd for JVR. That will put this team over top and into the playoffs. Outside of Chychrun there wasn't anyone worth spending assets on, especially at the prices the top teams were paying.
Hard disagree, among the like 40 players traded there were real impact guys
again, your opinion .. not KA's
In the same way that it’s an opinion that the sky won’t fall down on us tomorrow, sure, it’s an “opinion” that you can add meaningful players without mortgaging the future.

I get the stay patient mantra. But my god, we have a good prospect pool and 3 2nds along with our 1st for this draft. Use one of those 2nds to make a move. You still have 3 picks in the top 64 and you show the fans and the guys in the room we believe we can make the playoffs. It’s been a f***ing decade. Spend a f***ing 2nd and get the town excited.
Yeah that’s where I’m at. Give the kids and fans some juice

As a franchise sure it's been 11 years but as far as the players and management

Who would you have added?

"Mortgage the future" is such a lame, false argument.
Off the top of my head, I can think of 2 all time Sabres procured at the deadline.
I'll be amazed if they tell us today that making your team better is a bad thing, every normal person knows that.

About why he felt it unnecessary to try to improve his team using his surplus of 2nds when you’re in the playoff hunt.

I won’t even mention the drought because it’s irrelevant to this front office (and should be)
"prices to high"

"like his current players"

We've heard it all before

Ebenezer Adams waking up after being visited by the three ghosts and deciding that really he should keep being miserly in order to save up for a really great Christmas in five years

Who would you have added?
Niederreiter is the most obvious pound-the-table guy I would have liked at that price, but a few of the defensemen moving for mid-round picks would have been an upgrade to our terrible depth

You should be installed as GM
His posts are sometimes absurd but the one you quoted isn't unreasonable at all. This team should always be looking to improve in certain capacities, we have a plethora of draft capital and multiple top prospects in the system, there is no rationale why we could not utilize future draft picks for established NHL players to improve this roster. I would argue that giving our players playoff experience and giving them a better roster is more important to the future of this team than another 1st round pick.

Serious questions that I would like people to be on the record about so there is no mistaking it later…

If the Sabres are worse next year after another offseason of inactivity and talking about the future…because maybe Dahlin and Tage and Tuch dont repeat career years…or maybe they have more injuries that there is zero excuse to have no depth at all…

if we are worse with this plan…what should happen?
What if they are better?

Is Stillman a part of that plan?

Is having Clague and Bryson in the top 6 defencemen part of that plan?

Is this really a plan?
Stillman/Bryson/Clague and the 6th, 7th, and 8th D sure seems like the plan.

If people want a more robust LHD to bump Bryson from the lineup, then Stillman is a guy that is worth a shot.

I always think "mortgaging the future" is a funny way to say you shouldn't do something because our economy is built on the idea of doing exactly that to buy a house and most people who have done that regret nothing.

A guy where the fans cheer he is gone is your man? smh.

Will Borgen is reportedly available. That would satisfy me because I could be convinced he's a top 4 RD in the future. Skates well, physical, solid defensively and on the pk, teammates love him.

Could be had for less than Chychrun, I'd assume. Get it done, Kev- ahh, nevermind.
Sabres should be all over this. Worst case he’s a really good bottom pair RD

IF Adams does nothing this offseason (which I don't think is going to happen) and we're worse next year?

He should be on a very, very short leash for the 24/25 season. Like......if we're not in a playoff position Jan 1, 2025.....he gets fired.

But I don't think your ifs will hold. I think Adams WILL be filling some holes this offseason. I don't think we're worse next year (even if we do nothing).

We shall see.

He's a top 4 defenseman right now. Not in the future. Seattle uses him in their top four NOW.

I don't disagree that I'd like to see the roster improved, but it was a loaded question. Some having been calling for Adams head since the offseason and it's a bit ridiculous. How many more GM's do they need to cycle through? How many coaches? maybe it's time for some consistency.

After next season the only Dman who is signed is Samuelsson right now, you also have Mittelstadt, Krebs, Olofsson, Comrie and UPL who will all be UFA's or RFA's. Decisions will HAVE to be made after next season whether KA likes it or not.

I hope changes are made in the offseason, I hope KA recognizes the holes, but I'm also sick of the carousel of GM's because it hasn't worked thus far. Then let's say they do replace KA, who are they replacing him with? I see so much animosity but I have yet to see a single credible GM suggestion for someone who WOULD do all the things fans want and get the team to where fans expect them to be.
