Trade Deadline Thread (March 3)

You have to wonder why Yzerman would value those picks more than Hronek. He's as you said only 25, he's on an affordable deal, Detroit is in a fine cap position for the foreseeable future, and they don't have anyone to replace him as a 2nd pairing RD long term right now. Seider is their #1, and Edvinsson is a LD. Clearly Yzerman didn't value him as highly as the picks, despite him still being young and fitting within their age range.
...and despite them being within easy reach of a playoff spot

Serious questions that I would like people to be on the record about so there is no mistaking it later…

If the Sabres are worse next year after another offseason of inactivity and talking about the future…because maybe Dahlin and Tage and Tuch dont repeat career years…or maybe they have more injuries that there is zero excuse to have no depth at all…

if we are worse with this plan…what should happen?

let me know when the sky hits the ground.

He likely does things in the off season.

I can’t get past that people should just shut up and like it because Adams claims to have a plan.

that’s it. A claim to have a plan.

examining any piece of that plan…well…it raises a lot of valid questions. Questions dismissed with “he has a plan”.

The plan at goal? Years away
the plan at D? Nonexistent
the plan outside of skill forward prospects? Nope
plan to help while fighting for a playoff spot? No.
plan to reward team for their growth? No
plan to recognize and upgrade pieces that don’t work? Nope.

But...hey…what can you do? He has a plan.

It’s wild that the only player in the NHL that fits into Adams’ plan right now is the son of a friend who wasn’t getting minutes on his old team.
Im frustrated as hell. Granato all but said they're done.

So, earlier reports said Adams talks with Okoposo about the vibes of the room, which I thought was good. I can't imagine someone like Dahlin, who is in his 4th or 5th season without ever sniffing the playoffs- would be happy with the GM saying we can't sacrifice the future to make the playoffs. Or maybe the locker-room thinks they're good enough to make it. That would be shocking if they didn't want reinforcements. If that's the case, then that's why active players on a team are not GMs.

Sorry, y'all. Im going to be venting a lot today, but Ill get over it soon.

My biggest curiosity here, given what has been said about incorporating feedback from the room on roster decisions, is how much was the room calling for reinforcements? I don't want to revive the "lol Okposo is the real GM" nonsense but I am curious what the "temperature" of the room is in regards to the present state of the roster.

Niederreiter is the most obvious pound-the-table guy I would have liked at that price, but a few of the defensemen moving for mid-round picks would have been an upgrade to our terrible depth

GMs when trading vets for picks might ask them which team would you prefer to go to if the return value is similar. This is a component you are forgetting.

Remember Nashville signed him tot a 2 yr deal this offseason.

While the room should have some input, they should not decide one way or the other.

You know what they never say at the end of their never ending overly dramatic straw man argument quotes about “mortgaging” the future? That ever doing so is part of the plan.

Taken at face value…why would anyone have any belief they will trade futures for assets in the off-season either? So play that out a minute. It’s the same roster next year. Entire D and Goalies are under contracts. Can’t mortgage the future by trading for help. cant spend money because they have already told you they need that money in the future to re-sign their own guys.

Tell me..where does your misplaced faith in management come from?

the goalie prospect years away? The D that aren’t drafted yet?

Re Borgen... I laughed at the outcry of abuse Adams took from many when he was lost to expansion. It was a William Carrier 2.0 situation.

But at the time i expected a move to be made to improve the top 4. I also expected at least one top tier defenseman to be added in the draft either that year, or last year. None of this has happened.

So at this point... Yeah. I'd be fine giving up something decent for him.

That’s true, but it’s simply illustrative of a player that could have helped the Sabres and was traded at this deadline.

Weirdly, they never replaced Carrier's game either. When a team is so narrow on the margins, losing good players is harder to watch as fans and not wonder if there could have been another, perhaps better, way. Same with Hagel to a degree.
