Trade Deadline Thread (March 3)

You know better than this... nobody was expecting all the teams holes to be filled this deadline.
It appears to be too much to ask to fill one.

while in the playoff picture in an 11 year drought.

If you do some smart trading now, your job in the summer gets easier. Now only a bunch of teams are looking for improvments, in the summer you basically compete with every team. Especially those behind us that tanked for Bedard

I'll disagree with this a little bit. We aren't close to Boston's tier at this point to be sure...but we were playing last night without 2 of our top 3 players. Also, it was 2-0 going into the 3rd and at that point the Sabres were playing a decent road game under the circumstances. The game got out of hand in the last 5 minutes. Prior to that though, I was actually thinking that if you add in Dahlin and Tuch and maybe one half-decent deadline acquisition, a Boston/Buffalo series could at least be interesting.

As the Blue Jackets showed a few years ago, someone unexpected getting hot in net can upset a favorite. It's not likely but that's why they play the games.

I'm more interested in them showing faith in the group they have by bringing in a longer term bit of help and of them bridging the gap between the fans they've driven off through the years of stumbling. They want more fans in seats? Give people the end of the playoff drought and show some pulse. That it makes the owner 4-5 million in gate is gravy.

Buffalo isn't the first team Boston has made look terrible this season, and they won't be the last.
Well said, though it's been a long time since we've seen a Boston beatdown like that, but for some peace of mind, we should put it behind us and don't look back. It's easy, so don't be afraid, but if you're Boston and feelin' satisfied, you could have a problem. That's why they made those deadline moves. Now they're saying, "We're Ready!" (I hope they lose.)

This is the chicken or the egg conundrum of the team - can they get better without plugging their holes and if they don't improve some positional players, will they get better?
I think they can get better next season. A lot of these guys are still learning what it takes to win. These last remaining games will show them what it takes. I still think they can make it due to their remaining schedule and the fact most teams around them are selling.

Easy question -- yes, they can easily get better by developing and learning to play defense. If they can be average defensively, they'll be a playoff team. If they can get really good at it, they'll be dominant.

And guess what -- defense is much easier to learn.

Meh why wait. Could get him signed in April too
Because prices are much cheaper

how many times do we get beat down this season before we stop just putting it behind us and wonder if theres a serious hole in leslie frasiers defensive scheme?

oh woops, something sabres

when this team is winning they do it with their forecheck, and they can beat anyone when theyre putting effort into their forecheck

and i think with Quinn, Peterks, and Power this team does get better

if I were a betting man, and I'm too much of a betting man which is why i dont bet, I'd say the roster as is with development time sits around first wc and 3rd in the east

I think they will improve there. I don't trust that they will have the relatively light injury issues they've had this year going forward. Similarly, their direct competition in the division in the Senators have had a rough year for injury but are still right in the mix, now adding to their blueline. If the Sens are relatively healthy next season, they're an improved team.

Add another year of improvement by Stutzle

if buffalo use one of their 1sts last year on a RD I would agree with you because the players should be ready to step in before the 24/25 deadline.

tests is why I preferred D who had 3-4 yr term left who were under 26. We need this years 1st to drsft a RD.

the other issue with chy is his 8n jury history and he’s not as much of a def first Dman.

rosen+23 1st….no. Not moving both for a 2+ yr rental
So... Like Hronek? A 25 year old RHD having a breakout season who will still be an RFA when his contract ends in 2024.

And who was just traded along with a 4th for a 1st + 2nd?

I said make moves last off-season.

ate a ton of shit about it from people here…and now here we are…needing the very things I advocated for.

do I get an apology or at least some understanding that i was right they didn’t act as they should have?

no.

we double down because we can’t do things now either…as Ottawa and the Islanders add pieces that will help them next year and beyond. Teams you are in direct competition with can help their future…but we still can’t fix the mistakes of the past.

great.

this off-season…when they again fall short of the moves that will then be THREE move windows behind what they should have done we will no doubt be doing this dance again.
What were you right about exactly? Were you right about the Sabres being right there in an excellent position in the playoff hunt in March? Don't go putting yourself on the cross.

What does the other bit matter? Three windows behind? So if they made the moves you wanted right now they'd somehow still be X windows behind, for what reason exactly?

That’s not my point though. My point is last year debrincat was available for a first. We didn’t make that trade. Ottawa did. By the same logic people are applying to the Chychrun trade, it would also apply to that…we shoulda traded the pick for debrincat. It was a long term, young player, that filled a need. We didn’t take a swing. I’m fact, we didn’t make a move for any scorer. And a year later, it looks like we made the right choice in my opinion.

So let’s give KA some time and see what he does with this defense instead of awarding Ottawa for the move and being upset at Adams
the Brincat was never a player we needed, we got enough smallish forwards in the pipeline & with the big club
