Trade Deadline Thread (March 3)

I may be way off base here, Ace, but you seem very angry. I was once like that as well, until I saw the sign. And it opened up my eyes.
They have a team in a playoff spot by points percentage with the longest drought in NHL history and have $78 MILLION in available cap space that goes away forever in less than 3 hours.

where is any proof they aren’t cheap?

Live shot of Adams right now.

Not accurate.

Too much hair.

The NFL is a license to make money and they still decided to go light on staffing. They aren’t Bill Wirtz by any means but it’s not as simple as NFL cap and player retention.

Let's spend that cap space to get into the playoffs to get smoked 7-1 in 4 straight. Last night proved we aren't in the same league as Boston.

One might suggest that the reason they got demolished last night is in some respect because of the unaddressed holes throughout the roster.

Someone asked for proof they weren't cheap and I just gave them 3 major recent examples of them spending money. A lot more recent than the reasons we are getting of them being cheap. The situation of the NFL being a wealthy league has not barring in the fact they spent money.

They're cheap, just not in the roster or willing to pay their players area. Arena is a dump.

I've seen similar commentary and frankly the result of the playoff series is significantly less important to me than getting there. These guys NEED that experience. It also sets the expectations for the next season that each player, to a man, needs to be prepared for a playoff battle. That is nothing but positive.

It's a step along the way. Get to the playoffs and show the core guys what it's about. Give them that bounce going into the summer and next season. Give the fans the reward of finally getting there. No one goes from zero to Stanley Cup without some experience beforehand. For players who fill holes on this roster, there is nothing wrong with trading for guys with term who get them closer this year.

I’d like to go into greater depth but I’d also like to stay on topic, so to that end I’d suggest that trying to corner the market and gain surplus value isn’t incompatible with penny pinching. To that end, the Sabres should continue to do use the tactic and then incorporate actually acquiring nhl players.

Agreed. That said, if someone wants to cough up two 1sts and a 2nd for Joker, I'll take it and run

Why make one move when they need to make so many?

if we never make the first one this continues forever.
Because you don't make moves to fill all your teams holes at the deadline because that's when you're paying a premium. In fact, some would say that strategy would be "very stupid". Not me, but some people.

You use the deadline to plug minor holes, needs and use them to make a push. Which unfortunately we haven't done.

If they trade him to a team in the ECF playoff race.....I'd be very worried that he's cooked

He is not the player he once was. If Florida does move him, they will need someone else. Maybe they think Kierstad is ready - he was the guy Fitz replaced in the press box so he could go get reps in the AHL.

I still can't get over the leafs changing 30% of their roster

I'm feeling better today. We're still in a good place. Adams has missed some more opportunities, but there's still time.

Still holding out hope he'll find a good defenseman with term today, but I'm not optimistic based on the opportunities he's already passed up.

I dont need any rentals, personally. I wouldn't be mad if we spent a 2nd or less and brought in something useful, but I don't need it.

What I don't want is to spend any assets on players that don't really help in an area we need help.
