That's not what I said at all. The players for sure want to make the playoffs and so does the management.
So then why should they get a free pass. It sounds like you are giving Adams a free pass. Its not for me to judge how you feel but it does seem strange. I think Adams should be judge from the moment he is hired until he no longer works for the team.

I am not saying every moment has to be put under a microscope but grading his deadline not including tomorrow is an F. I am sure the guys in the locker room would love some help.

Im not saying do nothing. I’m saying do it in the offseason. I think we’ll learn a lot about what we have currently during this wildcard chase. We’re still definitely evaluating this roster top to bottom.

They aren’t at the win now stage. I think that begins next year.
But why not add a core player like Chychrun especially with Dahlin out when you have the chance? They will pay now through the teeth in free agency but seeing Adams he will stand pat again and the apologists will continue to make excuses for him

we don’t know how the prospects develop. Last time I checkedStillman has size.

1st in 2023 is off the table. The only exception is something like PHL 2nd becomes a 1st if they make conf finals. He was not trading a top 20 pick.

hes not trading a recent 1st for a short term player.

this board is bordering on nuts/ insanity.

last year they traded Eichel, Reinhart, and Risto
this year they add youth in Power, Quinn, and Peterka with a team still needing too learn how to win.

this season, even if they make the playoffs, is unlikely to get passed the 1st round. Teams like that don’t trade their 1sts.

this off-season the team likely makes some trades with some of these secondary players.

WaTF is this crap…wasnt Power, Quinn, and Peterka added this off-season count?

He hasn’t finished the rebuilding. He’s not burning his first for a short term rental

Off season is more likely we see moves
Who is the short term rental your referring to?

i will give Adams credit for what he deserves.

his defense three years into the job looks like this after one injury.

great job.

I don't disagree that they would like some help. Looking around the league it's mainly the top teams that have made additions. Ottawa being the outlier. IMO the time to buy is this offseason when all these teams that made these deals will be selling to recoup the picks they lost.

4th place in the division with 50% chance to make playoffs

And everyone harping on Adams
Do you honestly think they are making the playoffs after this deadline and with Dahlin and Tuch out? Love your optimism I was optimistic last week till injury and adams being a total coward changed my thought process 180 degrees

Out of curiosity, would a 3rd have been a good price for him during his Florida stint, in your opinion?
If we are going back years and ignoring recent play than people around here should be thinking no doubt Olofsson would fetch a 1st.

Likewise we got Anders Bjork for a 2nd and he just went for future considerations. Obviously Adams is doing it wrong and not selling him by his body of work years ago.

In your opinion, who won the ROR trade ?
St. Louis won a cup. It's a no brainer.

None of that was an answer to my honest question.

The Bjork this is a red herring - Hall forced that trade and limited the return, just like Kane did for NYR.

I think they have a shot. Other then Ottawa, none of the teams they are chasing did anything other then sell players.

I did answer your question. You can't base value on a players body of work years ago. His play from Chicago and especially Vancouver was that of future considerations.

It hasn't made them any better and we have games in hand on them. We do play them again. After tonight and Saturday against Tampa the Sabres schedule isn't bad at all.
Sure you can have that opinion.

My question is quite literally: was Stillman worth a 3rd when he was in Florida, in your opinion?
I don't see the point of this unless it's some roundabout way to justify his worth Adams got for him.

I honestly don't know what his worth was then, I only have more recent memories.

Or, hear me out - he is actually taking the timing into account? I have never been a huge Adams fan, but I will defend his patient build approach whenever it is questioned. It's a good strategy.

Good GMs don't make a lot of big moves early in rebuilds. Build the farm, build the depth, develop your young talent to the point where they can hang in the playoffs without actively hurting the team, then go big and bring in the pieces to seriously upgrade your biggest needs.

I felt like it was pretty clear that Adams was not trading his '23 1st, and unless the team is playing like a contender and not just a bubble team, he won't move his '24 first next year either.

I also think his generic GM talks have emphasized that he is not giving up major assets for any players that can go UFA in one or two years.

It's not sexy. It is killing the impatient fans, but it is a fairly common and sound rebuild strategy.

This team is not competing until Cozens, Peterka, Quinn and Power are mucb better, more consistent contributors. The team also needs a coaching adjustment in a major way, but that is a discussion for another thread.
But wouldn't you agree that adding a core piece like Chychrun without giving up his first round midgets would be a no banner instead of paying through the teeth in trade or free agency which I can only speak for myself Adams has shown zero ability to sign someone in off season. As far as impatient that's the wrong word for this fan base.Iam not even upset anymore just disgusted and quite frankly worried at this point with Adams at the helm

How many thought they would make the playoffs in October ?
Nobody.Thats my point. You have a shot go get a core piece like Chychrun to add to our young core and help us get into the playoffs. The players certainly deserve this and the long suffering fans deserve this
