In addition to their insane 8 2nds and 5 3rds between 2024-25; ARI has also picked up 2 2nds and a 3rd in 2026 o_O

Just trade Keller, Schmaltz, Crouse; put the team on hiatus for a couple seasons and come back in 2030

A post in the Main Board thread about the Portillo deal reminded me of something:

Levi's teammate Jayden Struble is in the "sign or walk" situation. I wouldn't mind tossing the pick we just got at Montreal for him. Could turn into a bottom 4 defender, and lord knows we need defenders.
Not many In division trades this past week

Theory: We couldn't afford the Chychrun contract and wanted Arizona to take some money on/retain. Both teams are dirt poor.

You're literally telling a fan base that has been deprived of the playoffs for 10 years to step back from the ledge because they're irate that their GM couldn't pull the trigger on a trade that would involve future assets we could easily part with for a player who could propel us into the playoffs this year and who could significantly improve our playoff chances/advancement for the next two years after that.

You're not the voice of reason here. You're an apologist for bad management.

This could be said for a few on here.

I wonder if those being the most vocal now would also be the most vocal when Chyc would only play 60 games a season cause hes injury prone.
I'd take 60 games from a guy who would dramatically increase our chances of winning in 60 games over the 7th D-man they trot out every night over the fact that the 1st is probably the only piece if they use a on a D-man out there won't be ready until 26-28 for a mid 1st in someone like Reinbacher.

It's going to be hilarious when Adams drafts whatever defensemen is left at 15th. Reaching on players to draft for need is surely the road-map to success.

Corey Pronman did the work to show exactly how little you miss the picks and prospects moved at the deadline five years later.

spoiler: stop being a coward Kevyn

Dude just traded a prospect everyone likes for an NHLer he liked…..COWARD

LOL if we can't afford Chychrun's contract, this team is in big trouble when Dahlin needs to get paid.
It's probably a factor. I mean there has to be a reason we are the team with the most cap space in the league and making 0 effort to improve. A very restrictive internal cap would explain that, Pegs is the new Melnyk.

I'd imagine that this has much more to do with pending extensions for young core players eating into cap space more than quick thrills at high price tags. Dahlin + Power, as a duo, probably go up, what, 300% this summer? 400%?

I would have paid that price for Chychrun without blinking, simply after seeing Power and Joki get abused and single-handedly lose that game last night. Also would have liked to include Rosen as a centerpiece, as I think he's the most likely of the big four to bust.

But I'm also not heartbroken over missing out on an oft-injured, LHD who we don't know much about as a RD, a guy who has been putting up his nice analytics far from the fire of competitive hockey, (and whose personality I've never liked and doesn't fit with our group in my mind). He'll be a perfectly hateable Sen and I hope we kick his ass here the last game of the season.

I think Adams is planning to target the losers of this year's pretty unprecedented arms race at the draft and beyond. A few of those teams, strapped for cap, will retreat and look to recoup some futures to buy back some of the farm they sold. We are in an incredibly strong position to selectively build a decade of contending rosters with an almost maximum amount of cap flexibility and stream of arriving futures. That's exciting to me, it's why I follow the sport on a site called Hockey's Future.

That said, we desperately need to make the playoffs. We have to. Because the Buffalo sports fan has lost it's mind thanks to the largely two decades of ineptitude we've been stuck with. Trading for a brand new fanbase to replace our terminally shot cohort is going to take a lot more than a few conditional firsts.

Next year? They’ll make 6 and an ELC each

In two years? Much more. And much, much less than the cap ceiling.

You’re going to have some crow to eat when Stillman is skating around killing people and we have to sign him to an 7 year deal next year :laugh:
