That is revisionism. We absolutely had a need for a big time scorer last year. And people here absolutely wanted to trades first for him.
Just for the record...

Tage Thompson is a damn near 50 goal scorer now. Dahlin is a Norris candidate now.

The time to add guys is now. ESPECIALLY if it isn't costing you a single prospect.
Yea, we might have the Norris winner and a separate player be a Hart finalist and like 6 players with 20 goals this year. Sounds like a team that should be looking to improve immediately, not wait 3 years for all of our prospects to graduate.

Look, I love the last calendar year of the Buffalo Sabres. I think they’re on the right track because they hit on Dahlin and on another lottery ticket in Tage. I even like Granato as a coach despite his systemic flaws.

But this feel good turn doesn’t mean that the future is automatically bright. It’s very possible that they’ve just happened into this good fortune and don’t know how to handle it. That’s how it looks to me right now, and while I might be wrong, that decade plus of embarrassment isn’t wiped away by 80 games of playoff contention

I think this tracks pretty well with why so many of you are upset. You all keep factoring the playoff drought while this front office has been her a short time only. There is a lot of impatience and frustration, which I get. I just don’t agree because I’m separating the past from this front office. It’s like year 1 of this core and it’s going awesome.

It was the same thing with the bills. What’s sad is that if this is anything like the bills, the impatience and frustration will carry on even when the Sabres are good. It has with the bills fans, that’s for sure.

I don’t blame you all, but that’s unfortunate

Ottawa is sitting out of the playoffs behind us.... with their 2nd line center out for the whole year. You think this is Dorian going for the Cup? ...

No.. its a GM seeing a hole in their team and this addresses it now and in the future.

But what makes it a good move? Just because they did it and you wished we did?

It's a good move because it gives them 2.25 years of an excellent top 4 defenseman, pushing overmatched guys down the lineup and giving them some redundancy in case of injury. For the Sens its a good move for very much the same reasons.

Better? is a concept.

whise been traded ? would it put us over the top or are our guys going to reach their true ceilings forced to step up now..

A tough fast winger to add w cozens..etc. i don't see many without warts on the trade list for reasonable .. McCabe would help to get thru shifts ..I think Donny and KA kniw what they are doing. Doesn't mean they weren't denied help. I just can get pitchforks out and call them lame as we kniw nothing even about team health..

Again, why is that them making moves is good? We have no idea how it turns out yet
SANITY !!

I hope Ottawa overtakes us in the standings and creeps in just ahead of us for the 8th and final playoff spot so we can tell Arizona "see, our first rounder really was the better option!" That'll show'em. Yeah baby, revenge is a dish best served cold. Suck it Zona! Woooooooo!

And if he doesn’t help lead them anywhere, wants 8 million a year in two years, and is hurt a bunch…is it a good move? While if we get someone else without giving up as much, and they cost less, and they partner better with Power? Wouldn’t that be a good move?

Maybe all that happens. Maybe it doesn’t. I don’t know yet

But just because a good player at a position of need was traded, and we didn’t get them, I’m not going to freak out.

Then i would say they are delusional and is not fit for purpose.
jock certain.. pitchforks.. They haven't earned any trust or leeway..

I hope we continue to build a better core and team than them so all these Ottawa takes continue to be silly.

(Im actually hoping they become good, that was a very fun rivalry)

You tell me? You're the one that started out thinking it was a good move but your need to stand up for the organization has taken you down the path to question if it was even a good move.

I’d have loved to have gotten Chychrun at the price

Niederreiter is the other trade I’d have matched

Our best solutions being internal does not necessarily mean personnel. I have and will maintain that the reason why we allow so many goals is NOT due to talent on D. Our forwards need to learn how to play defense. That internal growth will mean so much more to our team as a whole than getting one top 4 defenseman. One top 4 defenseman doesn't magically stop all of the odd man rushes against. One top 4 defenseman doesn't magically stop all those f***ing backdoor goals we allow.

Of course, one top 4 defenseman doesn't help our goalies stop that shot we'd really like to see them stop even if we can't blame them for letting it in per se. But that's a slightly different discussion.

A top 4 defenseman would help.......but only so much right now. A top 4 defenseman doesn't guarantee we get into the playoffs if our forwards keep avoiding learning how to play defense.
I know what he means when he says "internal." He wants to develop not just the prospects but the players on the roster now and in order to do so he wants them to have opportunity. I would say the forwards need to get better defensively AND you need another good top 4d to be able to compete in the East. We don't have to wait for the forwards to get better to improve the D, but waiting around for Joki/Bryson/Stillman to become as good as Chychrun is going to be a long wait. And there's no elite D prospects coming like there are at Forward. Does Adams know this? If he does, is he willing to do what is necessary to fill that gap? These are the fair questions we should be asking at this point.

I wonder if those being the most vocal now would also be the most vocal when Chyc would only play 60 games a season cause hes injury prone.

Sometimes in life Dirty Dog, you gotta live dangerously to get to where you need to go.

There are no statues out there in the world dedicated to great leaders with the inscription "At Least He Played it Safe."

The Kevyn Adams Sabres are led by players acquired by another GM. Outside of Tuch, who has been important and is unquestionably a victory, the current foundation of the team was baked in. To me, if he’s got his blood and sweat anywhere in this squad, it’s the holes that have lingered while the club. I don’t need a blockbuster trade for Chychrun to feel good about management. Simply do one’s best to ice an NHL-caliber bottom pairing and goaltending corps and take the handicap off of the players!

So let’s give KA some time and see what he does with this defense instead of awarding Ottawa for the move and being upset at Adams

I’m fine not using big pieces for trying to get the big pieces, but it shouldn’t be that outlandish to expect to see Kevyn to address or try to improve some of the lesser roles which shouldn’t require that valuable of assets for improvement.

If you’re not going to be a buyer for the season, you might as well make moves to bolster your cupboards of assets to help extend that patience. A guy like Oloffson should be able to get you something.

Kevyn not only has to worry about his organization’s timeline he also needs to keep up with Joneses. Otherwise, he’s going to need to do the double amount of work the next season to keep them in the hunt. He needs to bolster the 4-6 defenseman on this team, because the pipeline is currently pretty bare and the guys that currently have roles on a team in the outside aren’t a part of the solution. The quicker we improve on that, the more consistent we can become as a team.

Yea that’s not what i said at all. I said I’d have liked to add him. I think he is a good player and at a position of need. And I do think it’s a good move. I haven’t taken any path that made me change any of that

What I’m saying is we do not know how this ends up. We don’t know if this works out for Ottawa. We don’t know if the Sabres end up with someone different this week or in the off-season. And we don’t know which move ends up being better. We don’t know. I don’t. Know. You don’t know.
