Also, Im beggining to be annoyed by Adams face like I did with Botterill. Not nearly to the degree of Botterill, but mildly annoyed

I'm annoyed by the commentary about setting the franchise up for long-term stability, etc... as an excuse for inaction. This team needs to get better now. If they don't get better, they will not get that juicy playoff money, even if they get swept. So... sitting on his hands and doing nothing is much more likely to cost them revenue this year while they have the opportunity and in the near future when the teams around them are continuing to improve. Buffalo is no closer to being a steady playoff participant. They can't rely upon the teams above them to fall off markedly in the next year and the teams immediately around them have made a move (Chychrun) and are looking at making a move (DRW... who?).

It's similar to Botts "assessment year". There are clear holes that need to be filled. There is no guarantee that the players they draft with this next swath of picks are going to fill this roster in the time they have Thompson/Cozens on good deals or Dahlin at Norris contention level. BriseBois had that right albeit he spent heavily.

To say I'm chapped by this lack of move is an understatement.

My feelings as well.

Maybe Adams knows something we don’t. Does Chych want to re-up at 9m? Do we have a summer trade already set for a team that wants one last chance of going for it before blowing it up?

It’s hard to call for Adams head because he obviously knows our needs and our trade capital. Makes me think there’s something already planned behind the scenes, even if sometimes it feels like we’ve been over-patient.
I am more upset in the fact that I knew it was going to cost as much to get him. He may not be "The Right Piece" but he could have really helped unload all the mins Dahlin, Sammy and Power were clocking.

Our d man really could use some help and Chychrun would have been a huge help.. especially at that price.

Maybe Adams (I hope he does) has something else up his slave but it does leave a bit of a sour taste in my mouth

> Oh so before the 1st of the year doesn't count or?

He was playing more than usual because we had 3 d men injured. With everyone healthy he averaged about 25:44 minutes.

He plays similar amount of minutes that other top defenceman play.

Makar: 26:56
Doughty: 26:18
Dahlin: 26:00
Miro: 25:35
Karlsson: 25:33
Hughes: 25:03
Fox: 24:46

He's a top defenceman. He's gonna play a lot of minutes. I don't really see an issue.
If you don't see an issue that this defense is gassed and now Dahlin is injured and Adams sits on his hands and does nothing to help then don't respond because its a difference of opinions there.

You don't see Dahlin getting hacked, slashed, crosschecked from behind or targeted well I do.

I understand it. Way too injury prone & I could see him walking in 2 years if we didn't give him a massive extension. I'd rather use our 1st on a very good RD prospect instead of Chychrun for maybe 2 years. I get why people are upset, but I think it was the right move.
Dude.. you're just lying to yourself. RD prospect to come in here in 5 or 6 years?

Pfffft.

Same sort of analysis from the Ekholm trade:

Ottawa 1st is likely to be just a few picks away from Buffalo's, so that's a wash.

2nd round pick is Washington's 2024 pick. Who knows now that shakes out, so Buffalo's 2nd makes it a wash.

2026 2nd between Ottawa and Buffalo is a wash, who knows how that shakes out.

Adams could've added one of the 2023 2nds and put the Sabres over the top. So, disappointed he didn't make that trade. Though Chychrun gives me some Bogosian vibes with his injury history.

I think a fair deal is that if Ottawa makes the playoffs before you…Adams is fired.

You had a better position, more cap, more assets and your young guys took less money than theirs.

So…if Ottawa makes it before you…get a GM who will build a full team.

Thats the deadline contract I want to acquire.

In the time between now and the point of a contract extension kicking in, they could have the end of this year, all of next, and until the trade deadline of the following season to have him in the lineup. And then if he's not signing, they could flip him for rental pricing for a glut of Adams favorite fetish - picks. Rationalizing is part of the grief process, but I'm not there yet and I don't think I will get there. This is a missed opportunity to get 2 seasons of excellent defenseman for a trio of picks.

They have to improve their talent on the defense before next season starts. They can't go in relying on three guys for everything because they WILL break down.
They already did! Stillman is under contract for next season too.

You brought up that he plays too many minutes. He plays similar minutes to other top d man. It's a non-issue.

Welcome to being a star player in the NHL. Player will go after you. It's literally the same thing for every top d man.

Its really starting to look that way and I am starting to get worried... Maybe its an overreaction (it probably is) but the question with Adams was anyways..

He showed us he can draft

He showed us he can SELL big players

Can he show us he can BUY big players? Still has yet to be seen....

There is still time to make a move but Adams performance this deadline has be a disappointment
