He's better than Suter and Mikhayev currently. They both are useless right now and it adds depth.
Mikhayev they can just buy out later use him as a rental depth winger

Tofu would be a nice addition

Maybe. I wouldn't hate it per se... if it's one of several trades. The concern is we strike out on both Guentzel and Toffoli and end up with only Zucker and Kessel. That would be a massively disappointing deadline.

That Forsling contract is an obvious comparable for Hronek, and it was all UFA (unlike RFA Hronek).

This year Gp G A P TOI +/-
Forlsing 62 9 22 31 21:46 +44
Hronek 64 5 40 45 23:46 +32

Career Gp G A P TOI +/-
Forsling 380 45 108 153 20:19 +113
Hronek 373 35 167 202 22:33 -56
some legacy years though he's getting paid through 32-35 yrs old

i would pay Hronek 7.25 and give him 5yrs vs that contract in a heart beat.

That deal is f***ing beautiful for Florida

Now the Hronek negotiation will be weird...

Us: Hey Filip, how about 6X6?
Hronek: You gotta do better than that I'm afraid.
Us: Huh? It's better than Gustav Forsling's.
Hronek: And are you saying that my value is the same as Myers?
Us: N...no of course not.
Hronek: Ok then...?
Us: F***...

Good on Forsling for being loyal to the organization that gave him a shot after being placed on waivers for the 2nd straight season by Carolina. Q remembered him and gave him a shot and he's blossomed since. Would he have made it with Green/Baumer as his HC and D coach, plus Cull in the A?

fair agree

I've only been on board for Zucker as a depth piece to push Mikhayev and Suter down the lineup or at least light a fire under their asses and be available vs someone green or PDG 4th liner etc

Is hronek a ufa or rfa
RFA

Myers wasn't our regime.. He's not here next year. You're still #2 behind Quinn.

McCann, Toffoli, Forsling, all turned out solid.

And somehow people got issues with us talking about Dimbo when his legacy from Reign of Error is still being felt.

The even more ironic thing about those three players in particular is how extremely affordable they have been for their entire careers, while spending infinitely more on absolute Slop Tier bottom roster players in the interim.

McCann and Forsling in particular are signed at 5 and 5.75MM for the next 3 seasons, their 28, 29 and 30 year old seasons. Yes, these two players are prime aged 27 year olds that would be filling two massive holes on our roster right now.

But we needed Gudbranson and Clendenning for our playoff run back then

Hornek is an RFA, so doesn't have the leverage of Forsling. It's more likely the Canucks sign him to a 2-3 year 'bridge deal', that would get him through to free agency before he's 30.

But the Panthers seem intent on locking up players, no matter what the cost. They just reupped former Canuck Jonah Gadjovich for two more years. Uh, really?

The Benning regime is marred by a lack of Skater development. If you didn't hit the ground running like Bo, Boeser, Quinn, Petey, you were not developing. Sadly, I'm not confident that Forsling/McCann would have figured it out here with Cull, Green as their HCs.

yes Zito has been unreal. Its funny people were turning on him and then he goes this off season and signs multiple value contracts again plus quality depth to hold the fort for Ekblad and Montour to get healthy. Tarasenko was robbery but i guess OTT had to oblige him after he agreed to sign with certain control of where he would go next

If they can sign Hronek for 6 mil AAV or less it'd be great. We can use Forsling as comparison and maybe also spin it as "hey Filip, Pete took a little bit of a discount here, would you consider doing the same?".

And then when Myers come knocking, we'll have even more reason to tell him to go f*** himself if he hesitates at 2.5-3 mil AAV for 2 years.

What did we get out of that in the end? Clendening, Gudbranson, and...maybe a bag of magic beans?
