That’s weird, they never overrate their D, especially not before a trade…

I think they are just clueless around the year. Yeah he's playing big minutes on their shitty team but that doesn't make him a top pairing guy everywhere else.

Yeah, I don’t think minus a gazillion on a bad team translates to a positive on a good team…

Matheson honestly just sucks. Even Montreal fans, when they aren't pumping his tires in fantasy hoping he gets traded, will just complain about how much he sucks.

It's partly a consequence of who else is on that defense. Matheson will look decent enough when the rest is really bad.

Tarasenko is sitting out tonight's game, apparently.

Given that he is the most likely target for the Panthers and apparently wants to be here (rumor) and has a full NMC, this could be something to watch.

Do they trade within division though? I know Buffalo did with Reinhart. I just have a gut feeling he's heading west

I don't think it's an issue for this particular trade.

Tarasenko is on a one year deal and Ottawa is completely out of the playoff race. Losing one of their best players helps them (draft lottery position) and taking assets from Florida is certainly not a problem. If Tarasenko says he really wants to be a Panther and that's the only team he will waive for, then he will definitely be a Panther unless Zito insultingly low-balls the Senators.

With that said, we don't know which teams are on Tarasenko's list of acceptable destinations, but the rumor is he wants to come here. We'll see.

If you listen to the talking heads at TSN, the targets appear to be either Tarasenko or Pacioretty. I'd personally be a bit worried about the latter given two Achilles surgeries in the last year. Does Tarasenko play well defensively? He's likely slot in on PP2 and on the 3rd line.

Tarasenko has been strong defensively this season. He's actually had a really good season. If he keeps playing the way he played for the Senators, this is a great rental.
