Yeah. One of the top goalies in the league and the best big game goalie out there. One of the best D-men in the league, and another that is extremely underrated by many. And probably the best-two center combo in the NHL.

Quick, Doughty, Muzzin, Kopitar, and Carter is definatly a core I'd consider not "all that great."

first off RP was mocking my poor english as usual, nothing new there

2nd what i meant by core is anyone with a long enough contract that you have to consider them, for now, as part of the core

therefore, the core: Kopitar, Brown, Carter, Clifford, Doughty, Muzzin, Martinez, Quick

all of these players will be with the Kings until at least the year 2020

out of these:

Kopitar is a stud C
Brown - decline and overpaid
Carter is a solid #2C
Clifford - doesn't matter, his contract is small enough that it's not going to impact much, but there are better 4th liners in the league at the price of $1,6m or cheaper
Doughty - the best damn D in the league
Gaborik - decline and overpaid
Muzzin - solid top 4 D
Martinez - solid #4/5D
Quick - he's 50/50 but overall a top 10 G in the NHL that acts anywhere from being #1G in the league to the 31st G in the league

so to me, really... there's Kopitar & Doughty... the others are players that WSH, ANA, and CHI have if not better

i wasn't comparing our core to Columbus, of course this core is better than over half of the league

but if our cupboards on picks and prospects are empty, then obviously we are aiming for a cup; i don't see how this core can produce a cup this year or next

hence, our core, ahum... AINT ALL DAT GRATE!

Lets hope so because we are going to need him to be big for us this playoffs. He needs to lead his team along with Doughty. Gaborik will not be back so we cant afford any slumps.

You're making things up. What part of this suggests Gaborik is done?

Lets not get ahead of ourselves, We've got to make it that far first. A lot can happen before the end of the season anyway, Toews, Kane or Keith could break a leg (as could one of our top guys)

earth can cease to exist too

he's just comparing rosters

i don't think there are many GMs out there building rosters with hopes that other players break their leg

as is, Chicago's roster is vastly superior to LA's

Lewis should be on the fourth line. He could not score on an empty net breakaway but is a solid 4th line energy guy.

And brown can't dump the puck in half the time. At least Lewis contributes along the boards and stays on his feet. I'm not saying Lewis shouldn't be on the 4th line, just he is a better option than brown on the 3rd line.

They were superior in 2014 as well. People forget the kings system excels come playoff time.

That's an interesting assessment. Hossa is running around on one knee. Towes is lighting the world on fire with his 44 points, and their bottom pair is anchored by perennial norris candidate "one-knee Rozi."

Every team has issues.

Brian Lawton looks like the guy who would sell you a used Mercedes with a cracked engine block and tell you that it's normal that the car runs that way. No wonder he was a former agent and gm. The guy was awful all day on the trade deadline show.

Are you guys ****ing kidding? That's the same group that has won the cup twice. Quick is the best goalie in the league come playoffs, and everyone usually wakes the **** up. Doughty can produce at Karlsson's level and play solid defense. If Pearson gets back to playing like he did a year ago, we'll be fine; it will be a tough matchup like it always is, but we definitely have a chance. The only thing I would say is missing is an extra top 4 D but look at Chicago's roster, they have 3 below average and worse defensemen.

Yeah, after reading, "This core isn't all that great," my first thought was literary. But keep bringing that up month after month. I'm not here for the grammar.

Kopitar, Carter, Toffoli, Doughty, Muzzin, and Quick is arguably the best core in the league.

vastly? the only thing that jumps out at me is their defense from the 2nd pairing on and their 2nd line wingers. idk why some of you **** your pants over the Hawks roster, we've beat them before when it really mattered. they arent invincible

This is not the same team that won two cups, Voynov being a piece of trash created a massive hole that has yet to be filled

So much this! I don't see Brown, or Gaborik, or Clifford or any of the others not listed by you for that matter as a part of the "core" of the Kings. Some (Brown, Gabborik) were as close back as this past season but moving forward I expect at least two of Brown, Gaborik, Clifford to be moved by the draft depending on what happens with Lucic.

If Lucic resigns I'd say he becomes a part of that group looking to the next few years. That's still a very good group of players under contract for the next few years and a very easy group to build a competitive team around.

Also this^ The Hawks have been beat in past and can be in the present and the future. That is as the saying goes "why they play the games."

I agree it's not the same team but let's be honest, voynov last season here he wasn't playing well and the only thing he did well was break his stick every other shot

Clifford is overpaid to me. $1.6 million for 1 goal? Great forechecker but Nolan can do that for $1 million less. Not sure if Gaborik is overpaid either. I know he gets injured all the damn time but he was still on pace for 18 goals. 20 goals for $4.9 million isn't bad. The length is scary but a team like the Kings that needs scoring that badly, it's a decent cap hit.

He was still better than defensemen 3-6 on the Kings right now.

Ducks were dumb to move Maroon. Stewart is out with a broken jaw. The Ducks identity is similar to ours and now they are left a bit soft up front...who is the toughest forward now, Garbutt? Lol.
