Would (over)paying for Hazal be stupid move?
Like Forbort, Shore and 1st in '17 for Hanzal(25% retain). (Is that too much?too little?)

Lines for now
Lucic-Kopi-Toffoli
Pearson-Carter-Steeg
Vinny-Hanzal-Brown
King-Lewis-Clifford
Andy, Nolan

Hanzal is really underrated. That would give LA three extremely good centers. I think they should have gone all in on him and forgot about Versteeg but I doubt Arizona trades him in conference.

I wouldn't do that. Even with 5% retained that's $2.3M in cap next year. Hanzal is worth that but LA does not have the space. Forbort and Shore sure, but I think that 1st could be used to help the backend long term not our #3C.

Arizona is at their 50 contract max so LA would have to take back one more Contract in any deal.

Cap is a risk, with Lucic resigning, but if Kings can't resign Lucic than they have two big big holes. With Hanzal they would have one of holes patched, and that for really cheap cap hit.

Not with another year still on his contract. He's a beast. One of the few centers that can make Kopitar look average in size.

What I'd like to see rolling into the playoffs...

Lucic - Kopitar - Versteeg
Pearson - Carter - Toffoli
King - Lecavalier - Lewis
Clifford - Shore - Brown
Mersch

Hamhuis - Doughty
Muzzin - Schenn
Martinez - Scuderi
McNabb

Quick
Enroth

Who would you give up to get Hamhuis?

Isn't Hanzal what Kempe is eventually supposed to turn into? I think if we went after Hanzal, Kempe would probably be asked for....

Not really. Hanzal very similar to Handzus, big, defensive minded center who can put up some points. Kempe is not that, and he's a winger.

Kempe has lots of center experience and could play center. I could see it being like carter how early in his career coaches didnt want to play there but eventually realize he is more valuable in the middle.

Kempe? Martinez and Pearson?

If Martinez is moved it needs to be in a deal for a top 4 deal coming back to LA. We would be a disaster without A-Mart with no one coming back.

If Kempe (or our 1st) is moved I only want it for a legit top 4 d who is guaranteed not to be a rental...or come the off season used to unload a bad contract or two.

Dean was toe to toe with Bowman in the way each managed their championship teams until the summer of 2014. That was when it all changed. Since 2014, Dean has been hit with one scandal after the next, and he's fumbled the ball. That's not all entirely his fault. He couldn't have predicted Richards fall from grace. He couldn't have predicted Voynov turning into a POS seemingly overnight. But at the same time, he hasn't patched those holes, and we've bled assets ever since. Now we're stuck with a cap strapped lineup, virtually zero tradable assets, and several albatross contracts (including a vastly overpaid captain who produces like a bottom sixer). Dean has wound up with a team that, years ago, he always wanted to avoid, and that's sort of alarming.

You're not going to avoid it if you win. Who was willing to let Brown walk in the summer of 2013? Who wanted to trade him at the 2013 deadline? How do you not sign Gaborik in the summer of 2014? Greene isn't hurting the Kings at the moment, either on the ice or under the cap. Richards was a mistake, and Lombardi has said as much.

Chicago has Kane, and the Kings don't. Go through the rosters, and you can make comparisons here and there. Sometimes the Kings might even come out ahead, but the Hawks have Kane, and the Kings don't have anyone close to him. That's really the biggest difference.

We're going to make the playoffs this year, and we'll see where this team is really at. Dean, for all his mistakes, is capable of fixing things, I believe. If we go out in the first or second round, I have no doubt we'll see some major shifts over the offseason (Brown).

I imagine that's where things were headed when the Kings were down 0-3. But then the Kings went and did what they did, and with Lombardi being who he seems to be, he has tried to give the guys that won him 2 Cups a chance to do it again.

Who knows how things are different if they go out quickly to the Sharks. Richards, Greene, Mitchell, Gaborik, all gone. Maybe Lombardi doesn't feel the need to get Sekera if they're not defending the Cup. Had last year gone the same way, maybe Stoll, Williams, etc, are traded for picks. Maybe no Lucic. Maybe things are different with Kopitar. Voynov would still be a hole that's difficult to fill though.

As long as kings dont get Russell itll be a good deadline. Forbort/Gravel are better players right than Russell.

I would like Russell if the cost was a 4th or a long term prospect. However it sounds like the market is a 2nd +. So too rich for me. Also he is no redundant since LA has scuds back.

I am still happy that LA did not get Justin Schultz....although if all it would have cost was proks I would have been cool with it.

I'm pretty sure Dean sees that. Out of the remaining obvious targets, only Hamhuis would interest him, I think. Other than that, unless Dean pulls something completely out of left field, we're finished. Scuderi/Versteeg is what we got, along with Lecavalier/Schenn a while ago.
